Hello, this is a glossary of 20 words I judge complex enough to require a definition in my field of study and that I consider important to know.

Anaphylactic shock
noun
An anaphylactic shock is an allergic reaction that is life threatening.
Example: He was allergic to peanut butter. He is having an anaphylactic shock.

Bradycardic
noun
Bradycardia is when the heart rate is slower than the average. When a person's heartrate is under 50bpm, he is bradycardic.
Example: The patient is currently bradycardic.

Bradypnea
noun
When the respiration rate of a person is slower than average.
Example: The patient's respiration rate at the hospital was 6 respirations per minute. He is currently in bradypnea.

Bronchospasm
noun
A bronchospasm is when the muscles of the airways into our lungs tighten. It reduces the passage of the air we breathe.
Example: The patient is having difficulty breathing. He might have a bronchospasm.

Cardiopulmanory Resucitation
noun
Also known as CPR, it is a mouvement used to resucitate a person by doing compressions on his thorax.
Example: The patient does not have a pusle. We should start cardiopulmanory resucitation.

Cervical Collar
noun
A cervical collar is an intrsument used to support the neck and spine to limit an mouvements following a traumatic injury, such as falling down from a 2 story building.
Example: He will place the cervical collar to this patient.

Chronic Bronchitis
noun
A chronic disease that creates productive cough. It is a type of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Example: The patient is having heavy difficulties breathing. He was diagnosed with chronic bronchitis.

Electrocardigram
noun
An electrocardigram is a process of recording the heart's electrical activity through the heart's cardiac cycles.
Example: The patient is demonstrating signs of chest pain. It would be necessary to do an electrocardiogram to see if he's suffering of a myocardial infarction.

Esophageal Varice
noun
An esophageal varice is when the esophagus is completely deformed due to the veins of the esophagus being dilated by the resistance created by a liver cirrhosis. The pathology may cause hematemesis and difficulty swallowing.
Example: I've had liver cirrhosis for a long time now. I have developped an esophageal varice and I often puke blood for hours.

Hematemesis

Vomiting a large amount of blood consistently
Example: There is presence of hematemesis with the patient in room 15.

Hypothermia
noun
Hypothermia is when the body temperature is under a human's average. (37,3 degrees celcius)
Example: This climber died of hypothermia while attempting to climb Mount Everest.

Liver Cirrhosis
noun
Cirrhosis is severe scarring of the liver. This serious condition can be caused by many forms of liver diseases and conditions, such as hepatitis or chronic alcoholism.
Example: My dad has been drinking alcohol for 20 years everyday. He now has liver cirrhosis and needs a liver transplant.

Myocardial Infarction
noun
The cells of the muscle's heart starts to die due to its lack of oxygen. This process will be detected in an EKG.
Example: The patient is currently suffering a myocardial infarction.

The study of the effects of drugs and living organisms.
Example: Pharmacists are expert in pharmacology. They know the majority of the drugs that are accessible in drugstores.

noun
A branch of medicine that explains the function of a disease.
Example: It is important to understand the physiopathology of cancer to treat it.

Pneumonia
noun
A disease related to an infection in the lungs.
Example: This child had the flu for quite some time. He went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a pneumonia.

Sphygmomanometer
noun
An instrument used to calculate a person's blood pressure.
Example: Use the sphygmomanometer to make sure the patient is not decompensating.

Stethoscope
noun
A medical instrument used for listening of someone's heart or breathing.
Example: I will use my stethoscope to listen the quality of your breathing, and to make sure your airways are clear.

Stroke
noun
A stroke is when there's a complete or partial block of blood supply on the way to the brain. The patient will have neurological difficulties. For example, difficulties with their prononciation, mouvements and coordination.
Example: My dad had a stroke last week.

Tracheostomy
noun
It is a procedure to help process air and oxygen into the lungs by creating a hole into the trachea from outside the neck.
Example: This hockey player had a tracheostomy because he recieved a puck in the neck and was not able to breathe from his mouth nor his nose.
