This glossary is about mineral technology and the mining world. I created it so that people can learn some words that are use in the mining industry.

Cage
The conveyance used to transport men and equipment between the surface and the mine levels
Example: 40 men are going down with the cage right now.

Concentrate
A fine, powdery product of the milling process containing a high percentage of valuable metal.
Example: This concentrate contain 40% of gold.

Concentrator
A milling plant that produces a concentrate of the valuable minerals or metals.
Example: I'm working in the concentrator.

Crusher
A crusher is a machine which breaks up solids like rock by pressing them.
Example: A rock has blocked the crusher.

Deposit
A mineral deposit containing a metal or other valuable resources in a cost-competitive concentration.
Example: We found a giant gold deposit at Shefferville.

Diamond drill
A rotary type of rock drill that cuts a core of rock that is recovered in long cylindrical sections.
Example: We are using a diamond drill to search for minerals.

Dynamite
A high explosive consisting of nitroglycerine mixed with an absorbent material and typically molded into sticks.

Flotation
A milling process in which valuable mineral particles are induced to become attached to bubbles and float as others sink.
Example: We are using the flotation process to separate gold from graphite.

Geology
The science concerned with the study of the rocks which compose the Earth.
Example: I'm working in the geology departement at LaRonde mine.

Gold
A precious metal, the chemical element of atomic number 79, used in jewellery and decoration and many other things. Gold help to guarantee the value of currencies.
Example: This is a gold mine.

A machine in which rock is broken by the action of steel plates.
Example: This jaw crusher is crushing 5 ton of rock per minute.

Loader
An heavy equipment machine used to move or load materials such as soil, rock, sand, demolition debris, etc. into or onto another type of machinery
Example: Can you move that rock from the roadd with the loader.

Ore reserves that are known to be extractable.
Example: This mine has 3 millions tons of minable reserves.

A person who searches for mineral deposits.

A fissure, fault or crack in a rock filled by minerals that have travelled upwards from some deep source.
Example: We found an iron vein.
