Crankshaft
Noun
A crankshaft is a mechanical component used in a piston engine to convert the reciprocating motion into rotational motion.
Example: [...] measuring the torque at the mechanical interfaces of the respective units, for example, at the crankshaft or at the camshaft.

Cylinder-head gasket
Noun
A head gasket serves as a seal between the engine block and cylinder head, preventing engine fluid leaks and pressure losses.
Example: The cylinder head gasket is leaky.

Energy
Noun
The ability of an object to do work or cause a change in its surroundings.
Example: A battery contains stored energy that can be used to power a device such as a flashlight.
fr: Energie
Engine oil dipstick
Noun
A dipstick is a metal rod with marks along one end. It is used to measure the amount of liquid in a container, especially the amount of oil in a car engine.
Example: [...] routine maintenance is performed quickly: Engine, radiator, coolant recovery bottle, engine oil dipstick, fuel shut-off valve, air cleaner [...]
fr: Jauge d'huile moteur
Force
Noun
A push or pull that acts on an object to cause a change in motion or direction.
Example: When you push a door, you apply a force to it.
fr: Force
Friction
Noun
The force that opposes motion between two surfaces in contact.
Example: The reason why it's harder to move a heavy object than a light object is because there is more friction between the heavy object and the ground.
fr: Frottement
Fuel
Noun
material such as coal, gas, or oil that is burned to produce heat or power.
Example: "one aircraft ran out of fuel and had to ditch"
fr: Carburant
Headlights
Noun
A powerful light at the front of a motor vehicle or railway engine.
Example: I could see a car's headlights coming towards me.
fr: Phares
Hood
Noun
The metal cover over the part of a car where the engine is.
Example: The cooker and the hood were clogged with grease.
fr: Capot
Horse power
an imperial unit of power equal to 550 foot-pounds per second (about 750 watts).
Example: Up until 1895, despite the use of capstans and carts, it is horse power and human sweat that provide most of the energy required.
fr: Chevaux
Indicator/turn signal
Noun
One of the lights at the front and back of a road vehicle that flash to show which way the vehicle is turning.
Example: In each of the five different research cars, which were following, a switch was attached to the turn signal stalk.
fr: Le clignotant
Inertia
Noun
The tendency of an object to resist changes in its state of motion.
Example: When a car suddenly stops, passengers continue to move forward due to their inertia.
fr: Inertie
Licence plate
Noun
a sign on a road vehicle that shows its registration number
Example: Holland's licence plate sizes are similar to our own.
fr: La plaque d'immatriculation
Momentum
Noun
The product of an object's mass and velocity, which determines the force required to change its motion.
Example: A train has a greater momentum than a car, which means that it requires more force to stop the train than it does to stop the car.
fr: Momentum
Motor
Noun
a machine, especially one powered by electricity or internal combustion, that supplies motive power for a vehicle or for another device with moving parts.
Example: "these electric motors are highly reliable"
fr: Moteur
Motor
Noun
A device that converts any form of energy into mechanical energy, especially an internal-combustion engine or an arrangement of coils and magnets that converts electric current into mechanical power.
Example: Brian bought a new car with an electric motor.
fr: Moteur
