Terms which I am going to use in my tennis presentation.
backhand
noun
In tennis and other racket sports a stroke played with the back of the hand facing in the direction of the stroke, with the arm across the body.
Example: If your opponent is right - handed and has a weak backhand, hit the ball to his left if you can.

baseline
noun
In tennis, volleyball, and other games the line marking each end of a court.
Example: If a player´s foot touches the baseline while serving, the serve is a foot - fault.

doubles
noun
A match between teams of two players.
Example: In a game of doubles, the outer line down each side of the court acts the boundary.

fault
noun
When the ball does not land in the opponents court.
Example: A fault can be called if a serve, forehand, backhand or volley lands outside the playing area.

foot fault
noun
A fault called against the server for stepping on or over the baseline with either foot during delivery of the serve.
Example: A foot fault occurs when the server fails to keep both feet behind baseline until he or she has served.

forehand
noun
The shot played when the palm of the dominant hand is facing forward.
Example: Chris has a very strong forehand, so his opponents play to his backhand more.

Grand Slam
noun
The four major tournaments: Wimbledon, the French, U.S. and Australian Opens.
Example: A career Grand Slam means a player has won each Grand Slam tournament at least once in their career.

A shot that must be replayed, such as a serve that touches the net.
Example: The umpire heard the serve clip the net as it went over, so she called a let.

A stroke that lifts the ball high in the air, usually over the head of the opponent at the net.
Example: You should lob the ball high.

match point
noun
A point that will end the match if it is won by the leading player.
Example: Ana had her first three match points saved, but she won the fourth.

noun
The net divides the court in two.
Example: The aim of the game is to hit the ball over the net and into your opponent´side of the court.

noun
A ball landing outside the boundary lines of the court.
Example: During the tournament I played the last shot into the out.

serve
noun
The shot that begins each point, in which the server hits the ball after tossing it into the air.
Example: Novak Djocovic wins many points with his powerful serve.

service box
noun
The area in which a player stands while serving in various court games. The two boxes on either side of the net.
Example: A server must serve from one side of the court into the service box diagonally opposite them.

A tennis game played by two opponents.
Example: In tennis, I prefer singles not doubles.

stroke
noun
A stroke is the way you swing a tennis racquet to hit the ball.
Example: This page is all about tennis strokes.

the court

A quadrangular area, either open or covered, marked out for ball games such as tennis or squash.
Tennis courts can be made out of a variety of materials, although they are commonly known as hard, clay or grass courts.
Example: The exact size of the court is determined by the International Tennis Federation.

tiebreaker
noun
A game format used to quickly finish a set that´s tied at six games each.
Example: In a tiebreaker, the winner is the first player with ar least seven points, and a two- point lead.

The official who is in overall charge of a match.
Example: The umpire sits in a tall chair at the side of the court, near the net.

volley
noun
A stroke where a player hits the ball back over the net (using a forehand or backhand) before the ball bounces on their side of the court.
