Appeal
noun
A request made after a trial by a party that has lost on one or more issues that a higher court review the decision to determine if it was correct
Example: The prosecution is allowed to appeal sentences imposed by the District Court

Asset
noun
The entire property of a person, association, corporation, or estate applicable or subject to the payment of debts
Example: In some cases, you are acquiring an asset that you haven't inspected, except from the curb.

Bear market
noun
A market in which share prices are falling, encouraging selling
Example: The bear market depressed both investment banking revenue and secondary trading volumes.

Bull market
noun
A market in which share prices are rising, encouraging buying.
Example: With the emergence of a new bull market, growth shares are coming back into fashion.

Case file
compound noun
A complete collection of every document filed in court in a case.
Example: Case file reviews also confirm that case records are adequately maintained and reflect the services being provided

Complaint
noun
A written statement that begins a civil lawsuit, in which the plaintiff details the claims against the defendant.
Example: A complaint was filed by a tenant against her landlord after he refused to fix the rental property’s leaky roof.

Example: The government's policy of divesting itself of state holdings

Eco design
compound noun
Ecological design or eco design is an approach to designing products and services that gives special consideration to the environmental impacts of a product over its entire lifecycle
Example: The objective of the Energy Related Products Directive is to improve the environmental performance of energy related products through «ecodesign.»

gig economy
noun
a labour market characterized by the prevalence of short-term contracts or freelance work as opposed to permanent jobs
Example: To people I know in the bottom income brackets, living paycheck to paycheck, the gig economy has been old news for years.

greenwashing
noun
disinformation disseminated by an organization so as to present an environmentally responsible public image
Example: while they can be useful, these sorts of standards are sometimes used quite cynically—as corporate greenwash

Index
noun
A number used to show the value of something by comparing it to something else whose value is known: a wage/price
Example: They do this by investing in a basket of shares whose weighting is representative of the index overall.

Jurisprudence
noun
The study of law and the structure of the legal system
Example: People who study jurisprudence hope to learn more about the nature and history of laws

Lawsuit
noun
A legal action started by a plaintiff against a defendant based on a complaint that the defendant failed to perform a legal duty which resulted in harm to the plaintiff.
Example: his lawyer filed a lawsuit against Los Angeles city

Liability
noun
A thing for which someone is responsible, especially an amount of money owed
Example: The company may not really be a registered corporation entitled to limited liability

Example: the credit-card company is liable for any breach of contract

noun
the financial ability to buy products and services
Example: the younger age group's purchasing power has also increased

A period in which there is a decrease in economic activity
