This glossary will be for writing and learning new words that I may not have understood during classes.

Class action
NOUN
a lawsuit filed or defended by an individual acting on behalf of a group.
Example: A lot of us are involved in a class action suit against the company for discrimination against women.

Commodity
NOUN
an economic good
Example: The country is famous for commodities such as clothing and jewelry.

Compensation
NOUN
Something, typically money, awarded to someone in recognition of loss, suffering, or injury.
Example: Passengers whose train has been severely delayed may qualify for compensation.

Complaint
NOUN
a statement that something is unsatisfactory or unacceptable.
Example: If you have any complaints about the process, voice them now.

Concurrent
ADJECTIVE
existing, happening, or done at the same time.
Example: The conference will consist of concurrent presentations.

Damages
NOUN
Law: compensation. A sum of money claimed or awarded in compensation for a loss or an injury.
Example: The judge ordered the defendant to pay one thousand dollars in damages.

Dealer
NOUN
A person who buys and sells goods.
Example: Belinda has always been interested in antiques and she became a dealer five years ago.

Estimate
NOUN
Roughly calculate or judge the value, number, quantity, or extent of.
Example: Dan's estimate of the costs involved in the project was completely wrong.

Foot-in-the-door technique
EXPRESSION
Foot-in-the-door (FITD) technique is a compliance tactic that aims at getting a person to agree to a large request by having them agree to a modest request first. This technique works by creating a connection between the person asking for a request and the person that is being asked.

Free-range
ADJECTIVE
(of livestock, especially poultry) kept in natural conditions, with freedom of movement. "a free-range, corn-fed chicken"

Grand larceny
EXPRESSION
(In many US states and formerly in Britain), theft of personal property having a value above a legally specified amount.
Example: This grand larceny charge carries a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.

Disinformation disseminated by an organization so as to present an environmentally responsible public image.
Example: CMA's action takes part in an ongoing investigation about the risks of "greenwashing".

A border of a cloth article doubled back and stitched down.
Example: The hem of my trousers has come unstitched.

Husbandry
NOUN
The care, cultivation, and breeding of crops and animals.
Example: They study animal husbandry at the agricultural college.

NOUN
one of the parts into which a debt is divided when payment is made at intervals
Example: The loan will be repaid in four equal installments.

Lining, inner coat
NOUN
Lining is a layer of material on the inner surface of something, usually for protection or decorative appearance.
Example: The coat had a red lining.

Meeting minutes are the written record of a meeting or hearing.
Example: The secretary keeps the minutes of the meeting.

Nomenclature / Glossary
NOUN
A nomenclature is a systematic naming of things or a system of names or terms for things.
Example: The nomenclature of the European Union does not recognise this term.

Plaintiff
NOUN
a person who brings a case against another in a court of law. "the plaintiff commenced an action for damages"
Example: The plaintiff (or: complainant) was dismissed.

Quotation
NOUN
A quotation is a document that a seller provides to a buyer to offer goods or services at a stated price under specified conditions.
Example: We have the American dollar quotation today.

Right of withdrawal
NOUN
The right of withdrawal allows the consumer to change his mind about the purchase made, freeing himself from the contract concluded without giving any reason. For instance, the consumer can return the goods and obtain a refund of the amount paid.
Example: The right of withdrawal is deemed correctly exercised if all the following conditions are fulfilled.

Stifling

Sustainable
ADJECTIVE
Able to be maintained at a certain rate or level. "To sustain" can mean to maintain, support, uphold or endure. The original semantic meaning of sustainability and of "to sustain" refers to the ability to continue over a long period of time.
Example: This furniture is made of wood from sustainable sources.

Tannery
NOUN
Leather factory, a place where animal hides are tanned; the workshop of a tanner.
Example: The tannery always emits an unpleasant odour.

To charge (commissions)

Example: The lawyer charges a hundred pounds an hour.
