backup wall
noun
are cold-formed steel framed walls with water-resistant sheathing and concrete masonry.
Example: It fits in the horizontal masonry joint and ties the brick veneer to the backup wall or structure.

a measurement referring to the dimensions of the brick AND mortar when they have been sandwiched togethe
Example: It's called a relief angle because it relieves the the weight from the brick courses below and transfers it to the structure.

concrete block
noun
A concrete block is primarily used as a building material in the construction of walls.
Example: If the backup wall is concrete block, there are ladder-type systems that fit in the concrete block mortar joints. Wire anchors are then attached to the ladder system.

dovetail insert
noun
a joint made by inserting tenon on one piece into mortise holes in the other.
Example: Here's a dovetail masonry anchor that fits in a dovetail insert. It fits in the horizontal masonry joint and ties the brick veneer to the backup wall or structure.

gravity load

are body loads available only in Structure.
Example: floor slab is designed to support the imposed gravity load.

mortar joints are the spaces between bricks, concrete blocks, or glass blocks, that are filled with mortar or grout
Example: It fits in the horizontal masonry joint and ties the brick veneer to the backup wall or structure.

is a generic term for a type of anchor used to fasten a variety of materials to concrete.
