This business glossary will help you learn more about the lingo used in business management. I created it to help more students or future business managers with the words that are commonly used in the business field.
- Assets

- Assets are resources that businesses control, in which the owner expects assets to generate future cash flow. Examples include inventory, equipment, and land.
- Example: This company has lots of assets that they can sell.

- noun
- The balance sheet documents a company’s financial health at specific points in time, usually at the end of the quarter or fiscal year. The balance sheet includes assets, liabilities, and equity and follows the accounting equation:.
- Example: The balance sheets of this company shows a lot of loses over the year.

- The activity of buying and selling goods and services.
- Example: I am starting my own business this year.

- CASH FLOW STATEMENT
- noun
- Example: The cash flows from operating activities section provides information on the cash flows from the company's operations (buying and selling of goods).

- noun
- the value of the shares issued by a company.
- Example: I actually have 5% of equity in Microsoft.

- noun
- The income statement shows the business’s performance during a period, such as throughout the quarter or year. Focusing on revenue and expenses, the income statement depicts a company’s profit or loss.
- Example: Based on this companies business sheet, they have made a lot of progress economically over this year.

- Liabilities
- noun
- a thing for which someone is responsible, especially a debt or financial obligation.
- Example: valuing the company's liabilities and assets

- Using the profit equation, you can calculate a business’s net loss, or when total expenses exceed total revenue and the difference is negative.
- Example: When profits fall below the level of expenses and cost of goods sold (COGS) in a given time, a net loss results.
