Hello,
I'm Constance, and next year I'm going to start my nursing studies, My glossary has been created to help and provide good examples of words and definitions that are important for the Nursing classes. This glossary is for everyone that is interested in becoming a nursing practitioner or a nurse. My glossary contains 20 terms. I used a lot of good resources while I was doing my glossary, for example Wikimedia Commons, automatic translations to French, and authentic example sentences from the Lextutor Concordancer. I used Virtual Writing Tutor to complete this glossary. I will look to find new definitions and a good explanation of why you should be interested n the nursing studies.
Cardiovascular
adjective
Relating to the heart and blood vessels.
Example: Various pathological conditions, including cardiovascular disease, arthritis, various cancers and Alzheimer's disease, are associated with the damaging effects of uncontrolled free-radical production.

Childbirth

The action of giving birth to a child.
Example: In this view, female biological functions were seen as the cause of madness, namely the onset of menstruation, pregnancy, childbirth and the menopause.

Clinic

An establishment or hospital department where outpatients are given medical treatment or advice, especially of a specialist nature.
Example: Findings showed that an educational intervention resulted in a reduction in visits to the child health clinic.

To recognize (as a disease) by signs and symptoms.
Example: A person may behave in a way which the practitioner deems odd or as a symptom of mental illness and so the practitioner would
diagnose a mental illness, when in fact the behaviour may be culturally normal to the patient.

A disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, especially one that produces specific signs or symptoms or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct result of physical injury.
Example: This is normal and not caused by an enteric disease and a skilled Stockmann should be able to recognise and differentiate these causes of temporary scour.

An instance of being injured.
Example: Not all stem cells have shown this capacity and scientist have come to the conclusion that these stem cells show plasticity in the case of transplantation, organ or tissue injury.

Medical terminology is language used to describe anatomical structures, procedures, conditions, processes, and treatments.
Example: If medical care is available for the treatment of a potentially deadly genotype, the strength of selection against the otherwise deleterious allele is negligible.

Example: He was also suffering from auditory hallucinations and had been non-concurrent with medication.

Neonatal care is the type of care a baby born premature or sick receives in a neonatal unit.
Example: It is the only immunoglobulin to cross the placenta and become secreted in breast milk since the neonatal immune system lacks fully functional antibodies.

Any or all of the sciences, such as neurochemistry and experimental psychology, which deal with the structure or function of the nervous system and brain.

A nurse is a caregiver for patients and helps to manage physical needs, prevent illness, and treat health conditions.
Example: Mathis is silent and respectful, and the nurse is wise and helpful.

Palliative care

The definition of palliative care is medical care that relieves pain, symptoms and stress caused by serious illnesses.
Example: Palliative care and the technology of pain killing have improved within the last few years.

Patient

A patient is a person who is receiving medical treatment from a doctor or hospital.
Example: A sample is taken from the patient and all genetic material extracted.

Pediatric
adjective
Relating to the branch of medicine dealing with children and their diseases.
Example: Empirically supported treatments in pediatric psychology: Bedtime refusal and night wakings in young children.

Surgery
noun
The branch of medical practice that treats injuries, diseases, and deformities by the physical removal, repair, or readjustment of organs and tissues, often involving cutting into the body.
Example: This is a point-of-care test for coagulation currently in use in cardiothoracic surgery and intensive care in the hospital in which I work.
