I created this glossary for people in the Business Management program. You can find basic terms that an entrepreneur or a future manager must understand to succeed in business.
Agent
noun
A person who does business for another person.
Example: He's a real estate agent.

Agreement
noun
A negotiated and usually legally enforceable understanding between two or more parties
Example: It was found impossible to arrive at an agreement.

Bookkeeping
noun
The activity or occupation of keeping records of the financial affairs of a business.
Example: All bookkeeping was handled by an accounting firm.

Budget
noun
An estimate of income and expenditure for a set period of time.
Example: The Government's annual budget deficit stands at 4 per cent of GDP.

Business
noun
A person, partnership, or corporation engaged in commerce, manufacturing, or a service; profit-seeking enterprise or concern.
Example: My business has at last gotten on the right track.

Capital
noun
Wealth in the form of money or other assets owned by a person or organization or available or contributed for a particular purpose such as starting a company or investing.
Example: In doing so they transform inactive money capital into active, that is, into capital yielding a profit.

Company
noun
A business organization that makes, buys, or sells goods or provides services in exchange for money.
Example: I built this company.

Competitor
noun
A rival organization that is engaged in commercial or economic competition with others.
Example: Home Depot is a big competitor.

Consumer
noun
A person who buys goods and services.
Example: Consumer rights when dealing with creditors.

Cost
noun
To estimate the price of making a product.
Example: Do you have any idea how much this gym cost to set up?

Customer
noun
Someone who buys goods or services from a business.
Example: She is one of our best customers. She's a pretty cool customer.

Dividend
noun
A portion of a company's earnings which is paid to the shareholders or stockholders on a quarterly or annual basis
Example: In addition to the dividend 5% was allowed for commission, office expenses and risk.

employee
noun
A person who works for another in return for financial or other compensation.
Example: The relation between employer and employee is in the main far more personal and kindly than in the mills of the Northern States.

Factory
noun
A building or group of buildings containing a plant assembly for the manufacture of goods.
Example: Working in a factory required learning a whole different rhythm of life.

Marketing
noun
The process of communicating the value of a product, service or brand to costumers, for the purpose of selling that product or service.
Example: I'm a self-employed electrician, Sarah works in marketing for a publishing company.

Money
noun
A medium of exchange in the form of banknotes, coins, etc, issued by a government or other authority.
Example: He said I could spend his money with a clear conscience.

Office
noun
A room, set of rooms, or building used as a place for commercial, professional, or bureaucratic work.
Example: I've repaired the computers in your office, too.

Profit
noun
Excess of revenues over expenses in a business enterprise over a given period of time, usually a year.
Example: I turned a good profit on that piece of real estate.

Seller
noun
The party that makes a sale to a buyer. Also, call vendor.
Example: Fred wasn't able to contact the seller.

Trade
noun
The activity or process of buying, selling, or exchanging goods or services.
Example: When partners trade more, they fight less.
