amplification
noun
the process of increasing
Example: Increasing this parameter decreases the resolution of the inverted reflectivity and decreasing it too much could cause noise amplification. (1)
backbone
noun
basis
Example: The backbone of JMI is its forward modelling engine called full wavefield modelling. (2)
basis pursuit
noun
Basis Pursuit is a principle for decomposing a signal into an "optimal" superposition of dictionary elements.
Example: The sparse-layer inversion is accomplished using basis pursuit by minimizing the objective function. (1)
consecutive
adjective
following each other continuously
Example: Propagation operators between the two consecutive depth levels are the transposed function of each other. (2)
courtesy
preposition
thanks to, due to
Example: courtesy of proper handling of overburden internal multiples (2)
exploit
verb
utilize, use
Example: A frequency dependency in our model adds a new degree of freedom, which we exploit. (3)
implicit
adjective
suggested though not directly expressed
Example: There are implicit assumptions that reflections from the top and base of a reservoir layer are resolvable. (3)
intrinsic attenuation
noun
Example: Authors propose a FAVO method based on a formulation incorporating intrinsic attenuation, whereas our model is based on scattering effects. (3)
ru: собственное затухание
mitigate
verb
reduce
Example: Seismic processing and inversion attempt to mitigate this amplitude bloom due to tuning. (3)
overdurden
adjective/ noun
overloaded/ cover mass
Example: Traditionally, reservoir elastic parameters inversion suffers from the overburden multiple scattering. (2)
sparse-layer inversion
noun
Sparse-layer inversion decomposes a seismic trace into a limited number of simple layer responses and their corresponding reflection coefficients for top and base reflections. This inversion assumes a sparse number of layers and can be parameterized to resolve thinner intervals than can generally be obtained with sparse-spike inversion methods.
Example: The spectrally broadened volume is obtained by sparse-layer inversion using basis pursuit decomposition. (1)
spurious
adjective
false, fake
Example: They are free of spurious events related to multiple reflected energy from the overburden. (2)
straightforward
adjective
uncomplicated and easy to do or understand
Example: Its interpretation is not straightforward when dealing with thin beds. (1)
subtle
adjective
thin
Example: The advantage of this new method is that it can provide enhanced detection of subtle reservoir and pore fluid properties. (3)
yield
verb
produce or provide
Example: The spectrally broadened seismic data has been previously shown to yield more accurate porosity predictions in this field. (1)
