This glossary is to help me translate medical words in English to help me if I travel in my career. It is also to help to be able to communicate with my patient that can only speak English.

Abscess
noun
a swollen area within body tissue, containing an accumulation of pus.
Example: The presence of inflammation, obstruction, ABSCESS and fistula should be investigated.

Atrial fibrillation
noun
Atrial fibrillation, often called AFib or AF, is the most common type of treated heart arrhythmia. An arrhythmia is when the heart beats too slowly, too fast, or in an irregular way.
Example: Heart rate was 80 bpm and regular no signs of ATRIAL FIBRILLATION.

Bandage
noun
a thick piece of soft material used to reduce friction or jarring, enlarge or change the shape of something, or hold or absorb liquid.
Example: I putted a bandage over his wound.

Bradycardia
noun
abnormally slow heart action.
Example: Non-sustained ventricular tachycardia and BRADYCARDIA have occurred.

Cerebrovascular Accident
noun
Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) is the medical term for a stroke. A stroke is when blood flow to a part of your brain is stopped either by a blockage or the rupture of a blood vessel.
Example: Damage can be due to various problems such as CEREBROVASCULAR ACCIDENT brain trauma.

Cyanosis
noun
A bluish discoloration of the skin resulting from poor circulation or inadequate oxygenation of the blood.
Example: No mouth ulcerations, central CYANOSIS and no evidence of vitamin deficiencies.

Edema
noun
swelling caused by excess fluid trapped in your body's tissues.
Example: The removal of hemoarthrosis, reduce spasms, EDEMA and pain as well as reduce nerve root irrita.

Embolus
noun
a blood clot, air bubble, piece of fatty deposit, or other object which has been carried in the bloodstream to lodge in a vessel and cause an embolism.
Example: This predisposes to pulmonary EMBOLUS and hence shortness of breath.

Intubation
noun
The insertion of a tube into a patient's body, especially that of an artificial ventilation tube into the trachea.
Example: Rapid sequence induction was administered in order to allow INTUBATION and ventilation.

Ischemia
noun
An inadequate blood supply to an organ or part of the body, especially the heart muscles.
Example: Is anticoagulation after acute thromboembolic limb ISCHEMIA always necessary?

Malignant
adjective
tending to invade normal tissue or to recur after removal; cancerous.
Example: Ics of the tumor indicate that it is most likely MALIGNANT.

Pulse
noun
A rhythmical throbbing of the arteries as blood is propelled through them, typically as felt in the wrists or neck.
Example: No pulse was detected.

Relapse
noun
(of someone suffering from a disease) suffer deterioration after a period of improvement
Example: Eating in this way can also reduce the chance of relapse.

Sutures
noun
a stitch or row of stitches holding together the edges of a wound or surgical incision.
Example: He would need closing with either steri-strips or SUTURES but he would need to see a doctor first.

noun
sound or other vibrations having an ultrasonic frequency, particularly as used in medical imaging.
Example: An appendix was detected and investigated using ULTRASOUND and a CT scan,.

Urinary catheter
noun
A urinary catheter is a tube placed in the body to drain and collect urine from the bladder.
Example: She was given oxygen 2L via a face mask. A URINARY CATHETER was fitted.

Venipuncture
noun
The puncture of a vein as part of a medical procedure, typically to withdraw a blood sample or for an intravenous injection.
Example: Most often, the blood sample is collected by venipuncture (using a needle to collect blood from a vein in the arm ).

Venous catheter
noun
A catheter passed through a peripheral vein and ending in the thoracic vena cava; it is used to measure venous pressure or to infuse concentrated solutions.
Example: I am installing a venous catheter.

noun
an injury to living tissue caused by a cut, blow, or other impact, typically one in which the skin is cut or broken.
Example: Small volumes of fluid had been drained from his wound.
