15 Research Article terms

This glossary contains technical vocabulary from three research articles. The articles are titled: 1. Attitude Control of a 2U Cubesat by Magnetic and Air Drag Torques 2. High Accuracy and Low-Cost Attitude Measurement Unit of the CubeSat 3. Three-Axis Attitude Determination Using Magnetorquers. The vocabulary features the definition of each term, explanation of the term and an example sentence cited from the above mentioned articles along with references.

Actuator
noun
A device that causes a machine or other device to operate.
Example: Controlling the satellite’s attitude via magnetic actuators is an attractive option.[1]
ru: Актуатор
Attitude Control
verb
Attitude control is the process of controlling the orientation of an aerospace vehicle with respect to an inertial frame of reference or another entity such as the celestial sphere, certain fields, and nearby objects, etc.
Example: Much work has been done to investigate the use of magnetic torques in spacecraft attitude control.[1]
ru: Контроль отношения
Configuration
noun
An arrangement of parts or elements in a particular form, figure, or combination.
Example: Two of the air drag panels are visible in their undeployed configuration.[1]
ru: Конфигурация
Controllability
verb
It is the ability of a control system to reach a definite state from a fixed (initial) state in a finite time.It is considered as an important property of the control system as it defines the behaviour of the control system.
Example: The gravity-gradient torque facilitates the satellite controllability and the overcoming of the effects of underactuation. [1]
ru: Управляемость
De-magnetizing
verb
Removing magnetic properties from something.
Example: The demagnetizing field effect is expressed by the geometry dependent demagnetizing factor. [3]
ru: Размагничивание
EMF- electromotive force
verb
In electromagnetism and electronics, electromotive force (emf) is the electrical action produced by a non-electrical source. Devices provide an emf by converting other forms of energy into electrical energy.
Example: To use the EMF measurements in the attitude determination process it is necessary to convert the analog signal into the digital value.[3]
ru: ЭДС- электродвижущая сила
Geocentric
noun
Measured from or considered in relation to the center of the earth.
Example: The STR can measure attitude quaternion of the geocentric inertial frame relative to the STR body frame. [2]
ru: геоцентрический
Inertial Frame
noun
An inertial frame is a frame where Newton's law holds true. That means if no external force is acting on a body it will stay at rest or remain in uniform motion.
Example: The gyro body axes are aligned with principal axes of inertia of the CubeSat body; it can measure the angular rate of the CubeSat body frame relative to the geocentric inertial frame. [2]
ru: инерционная система
Kalman Filter
noun
Kalman filter is an algorithm that provides estimates of some unknown variables given the measurements observed over time.
Example: The discrete Kalman filter utilizes the correction of the previous estimate.[3]
ru: Фильтр Калмана
Magnetometer
noun
An instrument used for measuring magnetic forces, especially the earth's magnetism.
Example: Sun sensors, magnetometers and angular velocity sensors are commonly used for attitude motion determination.[3]
ru: Магнитометр
MEMS gyro
noun
MEMS gyro, or strictly speaking MEMS angular rate sensors, are used whenever rate of turn (°/s) sensing is required without a fixed point of reference. This separates gyros from any other means of measuring rotation, such as a tachometer or potentiometer. MEMS in this case stands for Micro-electromechanical systems.
Example: The paper proposes four kinds of attitude estimation layouts with one MEMS gyro and two simultaneously operating STR as part of the development task of the CubeSat.[2]

Predictive Control
verb
Predictive control is a control algorithm based on a predictive model of the process. The model is used to predict the future output based on historical information about the process, as well as anticipated future input.
Example: We present the simulation results for the case of a model predictive control (MPC) controller that is capable of enforcing control constraints. [1]
ru: Предиктивный контроль
Simulation
verb
The production of a computer model of something, especially for the purpose of study.
Example: The simulation and performance comparison of the above four kinds of attitude estimation layouts are carried out in terms of accuracy, convergence, and execution time. [2]
ru: Моделирование
Solenoid
noun
A cylindrical coil of wire acting as a magnet when carrying electric current.
Example: The satellite is equipped with solenoid magnetorquers.[3]
ru: соленоид
Star Tracker
noun
A star tracker is an optical device that measures the positions of stars using photocells or a camera.
Example: The attitude measurement unit is equipped with two simultaneously operating star trackers to enhance the measurement accuracy.[2]
