This glossary will introduce you to the architectural terms
- Asphalt.
- Substantive.
- Mixture of this mineral with lime, sand and other substances that is used mainly in the paving of public roads.
- Example: The car slides on the asphalt; we passed between the mundane swing, at dusk, of the Carrera de San Jerónimo.

- Large-capacity room or premises specially equipped for holding conferences, colloquia, concerts, shows, etc.
- Example: News conference in Washington's State Department auditorium presidents' actions have been closely polictics.

- Basement.
- Substantive
- Part of a building located between the foundations, below the ground level of the street.
- Example: You usually have to climb a ladder to get to the basement.

- Beams.
- Substantive.
- Rigid architectural element, generally horizontal, designed to support and transmit the transverse loads to which it is subjected to the support elements.
- Example: Travis was holding a beam, while Mike forced himself to place the lower end.

- Piece of fired clay, generally shaped like a rectangular prism, used in the construction of walls, walls, pillars, etc.
- Example: The brick walls had been pierced.

- A vertical, elongated piece of architecture that generally serves to support the weight of the structure, although it can also have decorative purposes. Its section is usually circular; when it is quadrangular it is usually called a pillar, or pilaster if it is attached to a wall.
- Example: As we will study, plants can take different forms (cross, circular, octagonal, etc.) and are often divided into parts, separated by walls, columns or other elements.

- Example: Currently metals, plastics, wood, and all kinds of construction materials are used.

- Tread surface, generally covered with some material to make it smooth and resistant.
- Example: The floor is ceramic.

- Foundation.
- Substantive.
- Laying or construction of the foundation of a building or other work.
- Example: The structural elements are the beams, the columns or columns and the foundation.

- Ornament or decorative motif that serves to embellish a thing.
- Example: Edward would have continued, but I stopped in my tracks at the end of the hall, staring in disbelief at the ornament hanging on the wall above my head.

- Substantive
- Constructive element used for the foundation of works, which allows the loads to be transferred to a resistant layer of the ground.
- Example: Driving piles to reinforce the foundation of a construction.

- Proportions.
- Substantive.
- Correspondence relationship between the parts and the whole, or between various things related to each other, in terms of size, quantity, hardness, etc.
- Example: His style, of great severity and sense of proportions, is characterized as a synthesis between the Herrerian style and neoclassicism.

- Roof.
- Substantive.
- Set of constructive provisions of the upper part of a building, construction, cabin, etc., that covers and closes it, mainly to protect its interior against the weather and humidity.
- Example: The rest were adobe huts with thatched roofs.

- Sketch.
- Substantive.
- Outline or project that contains only the main features of an artistic or technical work.
- Example: I make sketches before designing.

- Steel.
- Substantive.
- Iron alloy with small amounts of carbon, which acquires great hardness and elasticity with hardening.
- Example: It consists of an articulated structure of painted steel wires and thin aluminum sheets, which due to its lightness and unstable position permanently modifies its appearance.

- Terrain.
- Noun and adjective.
- An extension of land, especially when bounded by something.
- Example: Each block would be occupied by two parallel housing blocks, with a third of the terrain used as a garden.

- Unevenness.
- Substantive.
- Height difference between two or more points or surfaces.
- Example: The slope was very steep, sometimes the unevenness exceeded forty-five degrees.

- Vanishing point.
- Substantive.
- A vanishing point, in a conic projection system, is the geometric place where the projections of straight lines parallel to a given direction in space, not parallel to the projection plane, converge.
- Example: Vanishing points are very important for the realization of drawings, as they allow to give a sense of depth and maintain the perspective that an observer would have from a certain point of view.

- Measurements of the three-dimensional space occupied by a body.
- Example: The exterior appearance presents the same freedom of volumes and shapes, in a desire to convey to the urban environment a feeling of joy and variety.

- A wall is a vertical masonry work that limits an architectural space.
- Example: It was not far from the south wall.
