The convective heat transfer coefficient, h, can be defined as: The rate of heat transfer between a solid surface and a fluid per unit surface area per unit temperature difference.
Example: The convective heat transfer coefficient is dependent upon the physical properties of the fluid and the physical situation.

Critical Reynold’s number

The critical Reynolds number is associated with the laminar-turbulent transition, in which a laminar flow becomes turbulent.
Example: A critical Reynolds number is determined as a limit where the laminar flow changes to turbulent flow.

Friction Coefficient

Coefficient of friction is a measure of the amount of friction existing between two surfaces.
Example: When you find a coefficient of friction, you're calculating the resistance to motion at the interface of two surfaces of similar or dissimilar materials.

Kinematic viscosity

Kinematic viscosity is a measure of a fluid's internal resistance to flow under gravitational forces.
Example: The units of kinematic viscosity are established on time and area.

Laminar flow

Laminar flow or laminar flow is the movement of a fluid when it is orderly, stratified or smooth.
Example: In a laminar flow, the fluid moves in parallel sheets without intermixing and each fluid particle follows a smooth path, called streamline.

The Nusselt number is a dimensionless number that measures the increase in heat transfer from a surface through which a fluid flows compared to the heat transfer if it occurred by conduction alone.
Example: The Nusselt number is the ratio of convective to conductive heat transfer across a boundary.

The Prandtl number is a dimensionless number proportional to the quotient of the rate of diffusion of the momentum quantity and the thermal diffusivity.
Example: Prandtl number (Pr) is defined as the ratio of momentum diffusivity (kinematic viscosity) to thermal diffusivity.

Reynold number

The Reynolds number is a dimensionless number used in fluid mechanics, reactor design and transport phenomena to characterize the motion of a fluid. Its value indicates whether the flow follows a laminar or turbulent pattern.
Example: The Reynolds number is the ratio of inertial forces to viscous forces within a fluid which is subjected to relative internal movement due to different fluid.

Shear stress

Turbulent flow

In terms of fluid dynamics, turbulence or turbulent flow is a flow regime characterized by low momentum diffusion, high convection and rapid spatiotemporal changes in pressure and velocity.
Example: Turbulent flow, type of fluid (gas or liquid) flow in which the fluid undergoes irregular fluctuations, or mixing, in contrast to laminar flow.
