My name is Leanne, I am living at St-Jérôme. I have been studying Social Sciences for one and a half years now. I decided to take psychology for my glossary because some of the more important words still unknown by people. I hope the twenty next words and their definitions will help you.
- Autism
- Refers to a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication.
- Behavioral
- An observable activity in a human or animal showed by the aggregate of responses to internal and external stimuli.
- Bipolar disorder
- An affective disorder characterized by periods of mania alternating with periods of depression, usually interspersed with relatively long intervals of normal mood.
- Cognitive
- Of relating to the mental processes of perception, memory, judgment, and reasoning, as contrasted with emotional and volitional processes.
- Comorbidity
- The simultaneous presence of two chronic diseases or conditions in a patient.
- Depression
- A condition of general emotional dejection and withdrawal; sadness greater and more prolonged than that warranted by any objective reason.
- Development
- The act or process of developing; growth; progress
- Diagnostic
- A distinctive symptom or characteristic.
- Dysfunction
- A consequence of a social practice or behavior pattern that undermines the stability of a social system.
- Dysmorphism
- An anatomical malformation.
- Dysphoria
- A state of dissatisfaction, anxiety, restlessness, or fidgeting.
- Maniac
- Any intemperate or overly zealous or enthusiastic person
- Mental
- Be relating to, or affected by a disorder of the mind.
- Neurological
- Relating to the anatomy, functions, and organic disorders of nerves and the nervous system.
- Paraphilia
- A condition characterized by abnormal sexual desires, typically involving extreme or dangerous activities.
- Pathology
- The science of the causes and effects of diseases, especially the branch of medicine those deals with the laboratory examination of samples of body tissue for diagnostic or forensic purposes.
- Psychology
- Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behaviour, according to the American Psychological Association.
- Schizophrenia
- A serious mental disorder in which people interpret reality abnormally.
- Somatic
- Relating to the body, especially as distinct from the mind.
- Symptoms
- A physical or mental feature which is regarded as indicating a condition of disease, particularly such a feature that is apparent to the patient.
