This glossary contains words people can use if they work or want to work in sales.
Bargain
A product bought or offered for sale at a much lower price than is expected.
Example: The laptop was a real bargain.

brand manager
a person responsible for supervising the promotion of a particular brand of goods
Example: A brand manager is responsible for creating and promoting the desired message of a business's products and/or services.

Business-to-consumer (B2C)
Describing a business that markets and sells to consumers.
Example: The company Apple does business-to-consumers marketing.

Cold calling
Noun
A technique that involves contacting potential (possible) customers who have had no previous contact with the salesperson who is making the call.
Example: I always get annoyed when a cold caller decides to disturb my rest.

Lay-by
Regular payments are made to slowly pay off the product before it can be taken home. It is interest-free which makes it better than buying using a loan or credit.
Example: How long are your lay-by agreements?

Margin
the difference between the cost of buying or making something and the price at which it is sold
Example: The company has one of the highest profit margins in the industry.

Submit an invoice
To send or give a bill for a purchase.
Example: They submitted the invoice late, so I assumed the product wouldn’t arrive on time.

USP
Unique Selling Point
A unique selling point (USP), also called a unique selling proposition, is the essence of what makes your product or service better than competitors.
Example: When selling, be sure to emphasize your product or service's USP.

Wholesale
The sale of large quantities of goods (to retailers or to other wholesalers) at lower prices than in retailing.
