14 Glossary terms

Active
Noun or Adjective
Attentively trying to understand what someone says rather than passively .
Example: She's been very active in the the class lately.
Analysis
Noun
Breaking down a global topic into issues and exploring causes and consequences of these issues
Example: His analysis for the experiment was very good
Argument
Noun
Consists of a claim, the reasons for that claim and evidence to support the claim
Example: The argument led to nowhere in the end
Bias
Noun or verb
A judgement based on a personal point of view, which may be unfair or could favour or be prejudiced against a certain side.
Example: I think the scoring might be a little different if the judges didn't have a bias
Cause
Noun or verb
The reason(s) why an event or situation happens
Example: Stress was the cause of her bad grades
Closed question
Noun
A question that often has a Yes/No or specidfic answer; often prompted by 'what' questions
Example: Some people might not like answering closed questions
Collaboration
noun
Working together with others
Example: Collaboration is very important when doing a project
Communication
noun
A way to transfer information from one place to another, usually by speaking or writing
Example: Communication is very useful in life
Compromise
Noun or verb
To reach common agreement
Example: We were able to compromise the situation in the end
Conclusion
Noun
Sums up points made in a text
Example: In conclusion he realized it was all just a dream
Consequence
Noun
The result or effect of something that has happened
Example: The consequence for them being late is detention
