This glossary is to educate on definitions used to discuss topics on diversity and multicultural learning

A political system in which is tailored to vest into the individual based on their talent, effort and achievements
Ableism
Discrimination against people with disabilites
Ageism
Discrimination based on someone's age
Bias
The prejudice that is unfair against an individual or group.
Culture
A group or individual's customs and practices to a particular social group or nation.
Diversity
The act of including people from a variety of different ethnic backgrounds, and sexual orientations.
Equality
The state of being equal in terms of status, rights and opportunities
Equity
The quality of being fair
Ethnicity
A group of people who identify based on their traditions and culture
Faith
Complete trust in something or someone.
Hidden Curriculum
Unintended lessons and values learned in society and school
Kinship
An individual's blood relationship to someone else.
LGBTQ
A list of letters put together to represent lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or questioning.
Minority
A group of people whose race and practices is fewer than the individuals they are surrounded by.
Prejudice
An opinion on someone based on them simply being in a group.
Progressive
A group of people pushing a new set of liberal ideas.
Racism
Discrimination toward an individual or group of people based on their racial identity
Religion
The belief in a particular system or faith
Social Justice
Gaining justice for society in terms of distribution of wealth and opportunites
Stereotypes
An overgeneralized belief about a group of people.
Tolerance
The ability and willingness to tolerate something or someone.
Values
The standards to which individuals hold their life to.
Viewpoint
The way an individual comprehends something from their point of view
Violence
Behavior intended to physically hurt an indvidual
Xenophobia
Dislike of individuals from other countries
