Terms I'll need for class
- Bias
- When someone feels a certain way about something because it has a benefit for them
- Class
- An economic term identifying where someone lands on the economic and social pyramid
- Colorblindness
- In a racial aspect; it's when someone does not see someone for the color of their skin but for who they are.
- Culture
- Where someone comes from and the things that they do based on where they come from
- Disability
- When someone has a struggle that most people do not normally have
- Diversity
- When a grouping of something has a bunch of different objects or types to make the group different from the others in the group.
- Equality
- When everyone and everything is treated the same exact way
- Ethnicity
- Someone's skin color or race
- Gender Identity
- What sex someone identifies as even if it is different then there biological sex
- Inclusion
- When everyone is accepted into the group or activity occurring
- LGBTQ
- stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer individuals. This is a group of these individuals fighting for their equal rights around the world.
- Microaggressions
- When an individual does or says something that may not appear to harm someone but actually has hurtful intent behind it
- Minority
- An individual who is of a smaller grouping of people then most of the other people in the overall group
- People of color
- Anyone who does not have white skin
- Privilege
- When an individual is better off because of where they are from, who they are, or what they have
- Race
- An individuals ethnicity
- Racism
- When someone of a certain race has some form of hatred towards another person because of the color of their skin
- Religion
- Different organizations that individuals follow that have some sort of faith or belief behind it that is practiced throughout daily life.
- Sex
- What anatomically someone's gender is
- Sexual Orientation
- What someone displays their gender identity as
- Social Justice
- The actions taken by a society to ensure that everyone receives the same consequences for their actions; everything is fair.
- Stereotypes
- Things that are usually false that mass amounts of people believe about another type of grouping of individuals
- System of Oppression
- When an organization or group specifically does things to hurt or not include certain individuals
- Values
- What someone has been raised to believe and practice in their daily life
- View Point
- The certain way that an individual sees something that can be different than the way others see it
