21 Mechanical Engineering terms

Hi, my name is Charles-Alexandre. I am presently studying in Mechanical Engineering. At St-Jerome Cegep we have a building that is separate from the main Cegep just for our technique. This program is oriented to understand the basic of mechanical. What I mean, is that when your finish with this technique you will be a specialist of everything that has a motor or need some strength to work. Also, we have a lot of course that explain to us how to do some object from application in a computer. This glossary will help every one that are new in the technique and also every one that want to understand a text or a conversation that is base on some mechanical engineering.

3D print
noun
The 3D printing process builds a three-dimensional object from a computer-aided design (CAD) model, usually by successively adding material layer by layer, which is why it is also called additive manufacturing,[1] unlike conventional machining, casting and forging processes, where material is removed from a stock item (subtractive manufacturing) or poured into a mold and shaped by means of dies, presses and hammers.
Example: We need to use this 3D printer to make a mini prototype.

Algebra
noun

Breaking energy
Noun
Breaking energy is defined as the amount of energy required to break apart a mole of molecules into its component atoms

Deformation
noun
the action or process of changing in shape or distorting, especially through the application of pressure.
Example: This type of wood is deformation.

Ductile
adjective
able to be deformed without losing toughness; pliable, not brittle.

Electricity conductivity
noun
the degree to which a specified material conducts electricity, calculated as the ratio of the current density in the material to the electric field that causes the flow of current. It is the reciprocal of the resistivity.

Endurance limit

is the stress level below which an infinite number of loading cycles can be applied to a material without causing fatigue failure. Ferrous alloys and titanium alloys have a distinct limit.

Intensity factor

Variation of constraint

It's the difference between to results that are base on the same constraints.
viscoelasticity
noun
the property of a substance of exhibiting both elastic and viscous behavior, the application of stress causing temporary deformation if the stress is quickly removed but permanent deformation if it is maintained.

Volumic mass
noun
The density (more precisely, the volumetric mass density; also known as specific mass), of a substance is its mass per unit volume. The symbol most often used for density is ? (the lower case Greek letter rho), although the Latin letter D can also be used.
