This glossary is made by Powerpuff girls. We made this glossary for educational purposes. Our topic is vegetables. These types of vegetables are used every day in our kitchens. They are very common. We want to help people who love to cook and eat delicious food. We used mainly our skills from school and the internet. We hope this glossary will guide you thru your cooking journey.

Beetroot

The edible dark red spherical root of a kind of beet, eaten as a vegetable.
Example: Remove the beetroots from the oven and leave in the salt crust until cool enough to handle.

A cultivated variety of cabbage bearing heads of green or purplish flower buds that are eaten as a vegetable.
Example: Roasted Fresh Broccoli with garlic, lemon, and Parmesan Cheese, this side dish recipe is sure to be the best.

Brussels sprouts
Noun
A vegetable consisting of the small compact bud of a variety of cabbage. The plant which yields Brussels sprouts, bearing many along a tall single stem
Example: Brussels sprouts to the next level by roasting them with a mixture of balsamic vinegar and olive oil that is lightly seasoned with salt and pepper.

Noun
A tapering orange-coloured root eaten as a vegetable.
Example: Add the carrots, kale and 1/2 cup water and cook, stirring or turning with tongs, until softened, about 10 minutes.

Noun
A cabbage of a variety that bears a large immature flower head of small creamy-white flower buds. The flower head of the cauliflower eaten as a vegetable.
Example: A head of cauliflower goes a long way. This versatile brassica adds smoothness in sauces and texture in dishes such as cauliflower cheese, roast cauliflower and cauliflower rice.

Noun
A cultivated plant of the parsley family, with closely packed succulent leaf stalks which are used as a salad or cooked vegetable.
Example: Heat the oil in a large saucepan over a medium heat, tip in the celery, garlic and potatoes and coat in the oil.

A small Eurasian plant related to the onion, with purple-pink flowers and long tubular leaves which are used as a culinary herb.

A plant related to the onion, with flat overlapping leaves forming an elongated cylindrical bulb which together with the leaf bases is eaten as a vegetable. It is used as a Welsh national emblem.

A long tapering cream-coloured root vegetable with a sweet flavour.
Example: Toss the chunky parsnips with 2 tbsp of the oil, the orange zest, 1 tsp of the cumin seeds and plenty of seasoning in a roasting tin.
