behavior
noun
The aggregate of responses to internal and external stimuli.
Example: One intriguing finding from these studies suggests that only certain childhood temperaments influence teenage personality and behavior.
cognitive
adjective
Of or relating to the mental processes of perception, memory, judgment, and reasoning, as contrasted with emotional and volitional processes.
Example: Previous studies found that running also stimulates fat cells and muscle to benefit the brain’s regenerative and cognitive functions.
emotion
noun
An emotion is a spontaneous mental reaction, such as joy, sorrow, hate, and love. Emotions always involve mental activity and sometimes have physical effects on the body,
Example: The stories that tend to go viral on Facebook are those that stoke emotion and divisiveness, critics argue.
neurology
noun
The science of the nerves and the nervous system, especially of the diseases affecting them.
Example: A neurologist is a physician specializing in neurology and trained to investigate, or diagnose and treat neurological disorders.
psychiatry
noun
The practice or science of diagnosing and treating mental disorders.
Example: She is an expert in nutrition and psychiatry at Deakin University in Victoria, Australia.
therapeutic
adjective
Of or relating to the treating or curing of disease; curative.
Example: Manufacturers are now required to report disruptions in the manufacturing of an active pharmaceutical ingredient—the part of the medicine that produces the intended therapeutic benefit.
