This glossary contains terms related to a teacher. These are words we need to know in order to work in this field. I made this glossary to teach you these words. For each term, their word class is mentioned, their definition, an example of a sentence where this term can be found, the translation in French and text-to-speech pronunciation models.
apprenticeship

The position of an apprentice.
Example: As soon as I have got through this normal and indeed almost obligatory apprenticeship, I shall return to good ways.

The action or fact of achieving a goal toward which one has worked.
Example: Research also shows that as a general point, older staff or those with lower educational attainment are less likely to want to do an enriched job.

The action or process of providing someone or something with an official document attesting to a status or level of achievement.
Example: Basic instruments of corporate social responsibility may include values statements, codes of conducts or ethics, social reporting, auditing and certification.

An educational institution or establishment, in particular one providing higher education or specialized professional or vocational training.
Example: The authors, researchers at Arizona State University, Oxford Polytechnic and Albert Einstein college of Medicine, summarised the consensus made in the symposium "Variability within the galagos" held at the IPS Congress 1986.

The practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behavior, using punishment to correct disobedience.
Example: In order to gain most of the approach, managers have to generate a tension between discipline and freedom in order to create a
self-organised, creative work environment.

Example: The early twentieth century witnessed great legal, educational and economic changes for females, along with a higher visibility of women in public life, especially in the cities.

Serving to form something, especially having a profound and lasting influence on a person's development.
Example: So compelling was his work, that he went on to hypothesise that an inability to develop intimate, personal relationships in adulthood may be related to a child's failure to form a secure attachment to one or more people in the formative stages of childhood (Bowlby, 1973).

The receiving or conferring of an academic degree or diploma.
Example: For example, Jane Addams described years of backaches, depression and purposelessness following her graduation from college.

guidance

Advice or information aimed at resolving a problem or difficulty, especially as given by someone in authority.

kindergarten

A school or class that prepares children for first grade. A child in kindergarten is typically 5 or 6 years old.
Example: Whilst this study took place on pre-school children, a similar study by Wagner et al (1994) demonstrated similar findings in a three year longitudinal study on children from kindergarten through to 2nd grade.

Facts, information, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education; the theoretical or practical understanding of a subject.
Example: By buying an established foreign firm, knowledge about local economy and business environment is acquired, which is the strength of this option.

A system of methods used in a particular area of study or activity.
Example: It is important to treat this issue with solid methodology, repeated tests and cautious conclusions.

The method and practice of teaching, especially as an academic subject or theoretical concept.
Example: Here, I shall concentrate on form-focused instruction trying to outline a classification and to point out links between research and pedagogy.

primary school

A school usually including the first three grades of elementary school but sometimes also including kindergarten.
Example: Most commonly however it has been found in primary school aged children, between the ages of 4 and 11, the children regarded as popular tend to be co-operative, helpful, have leadership skills and actively engage in prosocial behaviour.

The action of teaching a person or animal a particular skill or type of behavior.
Example: For example new training machines may have been brought in which could affect the relationship between the two best times.

An educational institution designed for instruction, examination, or both, of students in many branches of advanced learning, conferring degrees in various faculties, and often embodying colleges and similar institutions.
Example: I currently study English at university and have had the opportunity to enter into various writing competitions and I have submitted several articles to a local school magazine in London.
