This glossary is about nursing terms. I chose these words because I think it will be usefull in the future. I will work in that after Cegep.
Ache
Noun
A continuous or prolonged dull pain in a part of one's body.
Example: The ache in her head worsened.

Adjective
Position of an unborn baby in which the feet are down and the head is up.
Example: We thought it was going to be a breech birth, but the baby turned himself around.

Bruise
Noun
An injury appearing as an area of discolored skin on the body, caused by a blow or impact rupturing underlying blood vessels.
Example: His body was a mass of bruises after he had been attacked.

Cannula
Noun
A thin tube inserted into a vein or body cavity to administer medicine, drain off fluid, or insert a surgical instrument.
Example: When walking back with Susie's mother she revealed that she was quite anxious about Susie regarding the anaesthetic as her other daughter had made a huge fuss when having a cannula inserted and was anticipating the same thing.

Caregiver
Noun
A family member or paid helper who regularly looks after a child or a sick, elderly, or disabled person.
Example: Alongside the patient, palliative care should also incorporate the needs of the family and or the caregiver.

Deaf
Noun
Unable to hear.
Example: The accident left the patient both deaf and blind.

An instrument for preventing the flow of blood from an open blood vessel by compression of the vessel.
Example: Surgical hemostats are multipurpose dental instruments used to grasp and move small objects such as tissue, bone and tooth fragments.

Bumps that appear on the surface of the skin during an allergic reaction.
Example: I broke out in hives after I ate that potato casserole.

Illness
Noun
A disease or period of sickness affecting the body or mind.
Example: He died after a long illness.

Ketoacidosis
Noun
Diabetic ketoacidosis is a serious complication of diabetes that occurs when your body produces high levels of blood acids called ketones. The condition develops when your body can't produce enough insulin.
Example: Hyperpyrexia, ketoacidosis, profound circulatory collapse, seizures, precipitation enhancement of cardiac arrhythmias (relevant here) and injury to self or others are complications associated with such a withdrawal state.

Midwife
Noun
A person (typically a woman) trained to assist women in childbirth.
Example: A trained midwife was engaged for Bogucharovo at his expense, and a priest was paid to teach reading and writing to the children of the peasants and household serfs.

Noun
An ostomy is surgery to create an opening (stoma) from an area inside the body to the outside. It treats certain diseases of the digestive or urinary systems. It can be permanent, when an organ must be removed.
Example: He has an ostomy.

A patient who receives medical treatment without being admitted to a hospital.
Example: Attending a clinic as an outpatient

Resuscitator
Noun
A resuscitator is a device using positive pressure to inflate the lungs of an unconscious person who is not breathing, in order to keep them oxygenated and alive.
Example: The leading ambulanceman told my staff that the child's chest went tight once while he was using the manual resuscitator.

Adjective
Providing satisfaction; gratifying.
Example: Even though nurses salaries are quite low, a lot of nurses say that they like their job because it is rewarding.
