I created this glossary because I will be studying in the field of health the next semester. This glossary will help me learn medical terms in English. There are 20 definitions of medical terms.
A blood puncture
Noun
A procedure in which a needle is used to take blood from a vein, usually for laboratory testing. A blood draw may also be done to remove extra red blood cells from the blood, to treat certain blood disorders.
Example: I had to take a blood puncture this morning.

Analgesic
Adjective
Acting to relieve pain.
Example: Cryotherapy slows down the inflammatory process and provides an analgesic effect.

Antibiotic
Noun
A medicine (such as penicillin or its derivatives) that inhibits the growth of or destroys microorganisms.
Example: My dad takes his antibiotics every night.

Bandage

A strip of material used to bind a wound or to protect an injured part of the body.
Example: I have a bandage on my leg because i'm bleeding.

Blood

The red liquid that circulates in the arteries and veins of humans and other vertebrate animals, carrying oxygen to and carbon dioxide from the tissues of the body.
Example: The heart pumps blood throughout the body.

A qualified practitioner of medicine; a physician.

(of a person or treatment) cause (a wound, injury, or person) to become sound or healthy again.

Heart monitor
Noun
A heart rate monitor (HRM) is a personal monitoring device that allows one to measure/display heart rate in real time or record the heart rate for later study. It is largely used to gather heart rate data while performing various types of physical exercise.
Example: My grandmother was sick so the nurses gave her a heart monitor.

Infection
Noun
The invasion and growth of germs in the body. The germs may be bacteria, viruses, yeast, fungi, or other microorganisms. Infections can begin anywhere in the body and may spread all through it. An infection can cause fever and other health problems, depending on where it occurs in the body.
Example: I had to be operated on urgently because I had a big infection.

Intravenous infusion
Noun
Intravenous therapy is a medical technique that delivers a liquid directly into a person's vein. The intravenous route of administration is commonly used for rehydration solutions or to provide nutrition in those who cannot consume food or water by mouth.
Example: The nurse set me up for an intravenous infusion yesterday at noon and I was not scared.

A very fine slender piece of metal with a point at one end and a hole or eye for thread at the other, used in sewing.
Example: I have to use a needle to do a blood sample.

Example: The nurse who looked after my aunt after her operation was very nice.

A person receiving or registered to receive medical treatment.

The branch of medicine dealing with children and their diseases.
Example: My uncle works on the pediatric floor.

A knife with a small, sharp, sometimes detachable blade, as used by a surgeon.
Example: To do a surgery, the doctor needs a scalpel.

The process of making something free from bacteria or other living microorganisms.
Example: Doctors must do a complete sterilization of their tools before performing an operation.

The branch of medical practice that treats injuries, diseases, and deformities by the physical removal, repair, or readjustment of organs and tissues, often involving cutting into the body.
Example: It took a long time to walk again after my surgery.

Thermometer

An instrument for measuring and indicating temperature, typically one consisting of a narrow, hermetically sealed glass tube marked with graduations and having at one end a bulb containing mercury or alcohol that expands and contracts in the tube with heating and cooling.
Example: The nurse took my temperature with a thermometer.
