Binding
noun
a strong covering holding the pages of a book together.
Example: An example of binding is bungee cords securing boxes in the back of a truck.

noun
an interruption of continuity or uniformity.

Cropping
verb
A designer can cut out or crop unnecessary parts of an image to improve framing, highlight a specific subject or alter the image’s aspect ratio.
Example: I'm cropping my picture

noun
The action of assigning a number or order of classification to something, in particular to a document; its result; the order of the numbers assigned to elements.

Flat
noun
Flat design is a minimalistic approach that focuses on simplicity and usability (almost the opposite of Skeuomorphism).
Example: It tends to feature plenty of open space, crisp edges, bright colors, and two-dimensional illustrations.

Formatting
verb
The way in which text, pictures, etc. are organized, especially on a computer.
Example: Since the visitor of the page is the only person who clicks the mouse and therefore decides everything, user-centric design has become a standard.

Heading
noun
a title at the head of a page or section of something
Example: An example of a heading is a car driving south. The title, subtitle, or topic that stands at the top or beginning, as of a paragraph, letter, or chapter.

Hue
noun
Hue is pure color. The tint is a hue with white added. The tone is a hue with gray added. The shade is a hue with black added.

Kerning
noun
the spacing between letters or characters in a piece of text to be printed.
Example: Letter-spacing should not be confused with kerning.

noun
the way that something is arranged
Example: An example of a layout is a drawing of how a house will be built.

Ligature
noun
In writing and typography, a ligature occurs where two or more graphemes or letters are joined as a single glyph.
Example: A tight ligature of twine or wire answers the same end.

Merge
verb
blend or cause to blend gradually into something else so as to become indistinguishable from it.
Example: unified to a single ego,' as characters' voices MERGE and are diffused into one another.

noun
A pilcrow is the name of the symbol, this one ¶, used to mark the beginning of a new paragraph or section of text.

Scale
noun
In design, scale refers to the size of an object in relationship to another object.
Example: When putting together a design, think about how you can utilize scale to help you illustrate the meaning behind your image.

Skeumorphism
ADJECTIVE
Skeuomorphism is when a digital element is designed to look like a replica of the physical work.
Example: For example, think iPhone’s calculator or Apple’s newsstand where the bookshelf and magazines look and feel like they do in real life.

Thumbnail
noun
A thumbnail is a small, rough sketch of how a designer wants their design to look—they can be used to help decide upon a layout or how a design will come together.
Example: I have made a thumbnail for YouTube

Triadic
adjective
A color theme composed of three colors equally dispersed around the color wheel. In designs this often works out to a split where one is the main or dominant color, another is used as a secondary support color and the other is used sparingly as an accent.
Example: Red, yellow, and blue. Purple, green, and orange.

Trimming
verb
make (something) neat or of the required size or form by cutting away irregular or unwanted parts.
Example: Section sewn binding consists of TRIMMING three sides of the sections.

Vector
noun
Vector images a made up of points, lines, and curves. All of the shapes within a vector are calculated using a mathematical equation which means the image can scale in size without losing any quality.
