Three reasons to become a Firefighter

As a final year student in the fire safety program at Montmorency College, I think a lot of people who are considering working in the fire department don't actually know why they want to be firefighters. In this listicle, I will try to convince you on why this job is so important and why you should think about trying it out.

1. Saving lives

As a Firefighter, Our initial goal is to save lives. Whether it is from a fire, a medical emergency or a car accident, we will always be there for the population of the city we represent. It is a hard job but a rewarding one. There is not a lot of jobs where the decisions you make could mean the difference between life and death. Of course, that part is not for everyone but if you like the adrenaline it provides, Firefighting is one of the most interesting one in my opinion. You get to save lives on a daily basis which is the best feeling in the world. Imagine saving the life of a little boy stuck in his room with a fire down the hall and finally giving him back to her worried mother waiting impatiently outside. I don't know about you but that sounds pretty amazing to me.

2. The infinite action

Another thing that really grabbed me for this job is the impressive amount of action it provides. I had an internship during my first year and it was so surprising. We had so many calls, every day about everything you can think of. An accident on the freeway, a fire in a restaurant, a medical help on a school bus and many more. That month was a non-stop adrenaline rush that I never wanted to stop. We were always ready for the next thing on our list and during our limited downtime, we were either training or playing sport at the firehouse. I never felt more alive than during that month and I can't wait to go back there. So, if you are like me, someone who always need to move or to help someone, I really think this job could be a match for you.

3. Driving a firetruck

Driving a firetruck is simply amazing. Getting on the wheel for the first time was one of the coolest experiences of my life. I used to dream about driving a firetruck for years and finally, I made that dream a reality last year. There is something about starting the sirens and the red lights that always interested me. Riding this thing as a passenger during my internship with an experienced driver felt so impressive. He was precise and fast on the corner. It was like an art for him. I know this might be surprising for you to see in a top three reasons to work as a firefighter but you really have to experience it to understand the pure joy I feel when I step into this machine. I really hope some of you will have the opportunity and the chance of driving a firetruck as this is the reason I fell in love with the job since I was 6 years old.

Conclusion

In conclusion, those are my three reasons why I want to be a firefighter. Saving lives, the action and the firetruck are excellent reasons as to why this job is so interesting to me. I hope you enjoyed your reading. What do you think are the other reasons to become a firefighter?
