In todays' society, the food industry is not what it used to be, and it is increasingly affecting the health of people in America and obesity and health issues do not discriminate. This topic is important to me because I feel that health education is not sufficient enough in the school system for everyone to know how to be healthy and want to practice a healthy lifestyle.

Being overweight takes a toll on your body from the outside all the way in. it wreaks havoc on your bones and joints the more overweight you are. This can cause many pain and joint damage like arthritis down the line.

When you are overweight you likely have fat blocking your lungs making it harder to breathe in general. Add that to sleep apnea and you will have a recipe for disaster. You will receive a lack of sleep causing a slower metabolism resulting in a vicious cycle of weight gain.

The heavier you are, the more energy your body requires to produce and therefore your body will be too busy trying to produce energy that it uses all the energy it has trying to produce enough for you to keep up.

Being overweight can cause mental health disorders due to having low self esteem from a poor self image caused by an overweight body type. Add other types of health issues to the mix and it can make matters that much worse.

A side effect of obesity is increased inflammation in the body which can cause damage that leads to cancer. Obesity also affects hormones in the body that can lead to cancer. Additionally, if you already have cancer, being overweight or obese will not allow you an easy recovery.

Being overweight puts you at risk for developing diabetes and if its not controlled, the excess weight can make it harder to control your blood sugar. Having diabetes can make it extra challenging to lose weight. If you let your diabetes get out of control you can go as far as losing a limb.

Being obese puts you at an increased risk for blood pressure and heart problems. The heavier you are, the harder your heart has to work to pump blood to your body. This causes increased stress to the heart over time which can result in disease or ultimately failure.
In conclusion, the importance of maintaining a healthy weight is pertinent to living your best quality of life. Maintaining a healthy weight means preventing countless possibilities of health issues down the line, even as far as living a longer life.
