When an entire country is offered the same access to all medical services, it leaves less room for a discrepancy. Currently, many individual characteristics, such as race, gender, financial status, and age, tend to negatively affect the healthcare these minority groups receive. Lower income families are especially vulnerable when it comes to health issues because they simply can not afford the insurance offered to them. Universal Healthcare, a system where the entire population gets identical treatment, would ensure social equality medically. Once this establishment is set in place, other organizations in the government might also follow the path to justice.

2. Leads to a Healthier Population

In todays' society, many individuals who do not have affordable access to healthcare tend to suffer health wise. For example, if I, someone who can not afford health insurance, were to become ill, I would have no choice but to go into debt while attempting to receive medical services or to naturally heal on my own. Most likely, I would prioritize my limited income over my own health, even though I would have no idea of the extent or risks of the illness were. When everyone is given universal healthcare, the population will begin to use these tools and society’s value of health will overall increase.

3. Creates Better Service

We have all been to a doctor’s appointment where you left feeling unheard or didn’t feel just not like a priority. When it comes to private insurance companies and medical offices, profit tends to be the largest motivation for these businesses. Health services typically target and compete for higher income families, which leaves lower income individuals with poor treatment. Universal healthcare would eliminate the profit factor that these companies aim for, which would make service quality the new goal. When it comes to keeping our people happy and healthy, one’s financial status should have no involvement in the process. Universal healthcare would create a new all-inclusive standard in the medical industry.

4. Develops a Better Quality of Life

Implementing a universal healthcare system could potentially help spark a human rights movement. Many argue that every single human was born with the right to have affordable, equal access to all medical services. If a system like this were to be executed, society would need to reestablish what exact rights the human population has. This conversation could lead to new progressive ideas that could solve issues like the student debt crisis, global climate change, privacy rights, and so much more. Developing medicare for all would lead countries in the right direction regarding these ideas. Every individual could benefit from any of these potential movements.

5. Increase Life Expectancy

Because medicare for all would provide everyone with the necessary tools to good health, longevity in humans would eventually increase. Those with deadly illnesses would be able to seek proper care. Access to accurate health education would become a new standard. Popularizing yearly check-up appointments would help catch millions of health concerns early on before they become deadly. Being healthy and fit would become so much easier, attainable, and realistic. Because of my inability to afford these check-ups, I have no way to truly track the condition of my health. Deaths related to health conditions would significantly decrease or at least be controlled and postponed. Who doesn’t want to live a longer, healthier life?

6. Normalizes Transparency of Cost

The medical industry is extremely privatized, which means the price of services and insurance vary tremendously. As previously stated, profit is a huge motivation to these companies. I’ve even made it a habit of asking for itemized bills when it comes to paying for appointments, because of how sneaky some of the charges are. In order to increase profit, they tend not to be straightforward with their costs and hours of meticulous research is needed to discover every detail of an insurance plan. Many Americans have fallen victim to surprise medical bills or don’t have the best medical plan fit for them, because of the lack of transparency. Universal healthcare would have the power to regulate these prices and put an end to these sneaky bills.

7. Lowers Cost of Overall Healthcare

Because so many more citizens would participate in the healthcare system, prices would be able to drop drastically. This means that for the majority of people, they would be able to save a substantial amount of money if we switch to a medicare for all system. Also, the government would be regulating costs, so insane, overpriced services and medications would be a part of the past. The government would be in charge of funding the majority of these medical services, so individuals wouldn't have to worry about breaking the bank to simply survive. People who are in a similar position as me would finally be able to join the healthcare system.
