I find this topic interesting because music has many genres and performs different results on everyone. What brought me to this was my love for listening to music and how it makes me feel depending on the genre. I listen to certain genres when I am in a certain mood. I have learned that it puts a force on my mindset and sets the tone. This puts into perspective my personal identity along with others meaning how it makes us feel.
Music being relatable through experiences is the principal connection. Song artists publish songs that engage others through relation. Whether it is a breakup, a song of memory, or a song of a good, positive day. People tend to compare or even contrast their lives through the story of a song. For example, there are songs about love and how someone feels about another person. More likely majority of people like to relate because they feel the same way. People create songs about their experiences to possibly help with closure. It goes the same for people who listen to those songs. Personally, it is a feeling of termination and loneliness. This plays a role in everyone’s life at one point.

People and communities come together through common interests. A common interest many people share is a passion for a certain genre of music, a certain song artist, or just music in general. People seem to relate and share the same connection with others. In this situation, age differences are also not a problem. The connection of people is brought from lyrics, rhythm, and mood. This bond between people can also influence others to create that same bond. Music opens a door for others to link and forms a creation of new mates. I have had many experiences where I heard someone listening to a song I thought no one would really know about. We made a connection and next thing you know, other people want to get on the same page so they start to show more interest in it as well.

Setting trends comes from influencers which also relates to music. Music can be formed by anyone who chooses to show off their talent. An example of this is seen on Tiktok. People without fame produce music and end up gaining popularity and they become “trendy.” This begins to build bonds and connections from stranger to stranger. This also brings other people the confidence to reveal their talents which kick off new trends like more songs or even dancing. Music setting trends can also be understood as what songs are hot at that time which from my experience, a song would be known for about a month until a new song is discovered and takes its place.

Music is known as a stress reliever due to the fact that the different genres connect to the way you are feeling. When engaged in music like this it brings relief from within and releases all stress. It puts you in a place where all you worry about is knowing the words to the song instead of overthinking a homework assignment. It cancels all excess stress and soothes you into an enjoyable mood. Stress-relieving music for me would be more setback music that puts me in a calm and focused mood. Listening to music when you are stressed is like blocking the world out and you just center your attention on the mood.

Everyone has created multiple memories that they will never forget. Music brings these memories back to life. The story of a song can be so relatable or can bring memories of what you were doing while the song was playing. An example would be from a personal experience with my best friend and me. Every time a certain song comes on I think of him or the memory of him and I blasting the song after school in the parking lot appears in my mind. There are also trigger words that are embedded in songs that really get you thinking. These words cause a turn up in memories good and bad. It could be as simple as “the dark night sky,” and it would trigger a memory. There are also bad memories that occur when listening to music. It all depends on the song and the person. It creates an abundance of emotion that sends the mind to a memory finder.

Music elevates mood in many ways. More positive and optimistic music will set you into a happier and more focused mindset. Personally, that is what gets me going and starts my day off great. On the other hand, there is the slower and more mono-toned music that brings you to a calm and in your thoughts type of way. I can also relate to that. It all depends on how you want to feel at that moment. Personally, when I am on my way to work, I will listen to more upbeat music that ends up putting me in a really good mood and sets a great mindset for work. When I am feeling calm I will listen to country music. When I am sad I will listen to slower-toned and relatably sad music. It brings enjoyment to your soul that just sets the vibe whether it is good or bad.
In conclusion, music makes everyone feel a certain type of way, it creates relatability, moodiness, and is something people look forward to. Think about it, music affects you in ways you probably didn’t even realize. Think about how it makes you feel. How it makes you think. How it makes you act. Music honestly takes a role in making up your identity as a person. It shows your interests and creates a better personality in your life. Music plays a big role in everyday daily living whether it is being listened to or thought about while you are humming. It is something that will stick forever and never vanish.
