When you think of pets you automatically think of cats and dogs, but did you know that bunnies are just as good pets as any other because they are affectionate and friendly animals. It is why I have two adorable bunnies who I have no worries about hurting my little siblings because they are gentle, playful creatures. Bunnies are gentle, it’s a well-known fact for companies as they are using bunnies to experiment on with newly created makeup products. It is an important issue to address because as a bunny owner, I stand against animal cruelty and want to limit the use of animal testing. They are used for testing products, not seen as living creatures who are suffering because of it.
1. 1.Hurting
I understand that makeup testing is done first on animals because there could be bad chemical reactions that can badly affect people. It’s saving the people from experiencing such effects, but it does not save the animals. Based on my knowledge, bunnies are one of the many tested subjects because they are big, gentle animals. Some effects that bunnies have had is losing fur, having yellow skin, and swelling eyes. Bunnies should not be dying because some makeup brand is coming up with a new makeup product to make more money. Everyone should be given a chance of life, and this includes bunnies.
2. 2.Inhuman
Animal testing is sentencing animals to life of cruelty, loneliness, and death. Makeup industry, for example, are taking their lives without remorse every single day. We as people have the choice to live and live the way we want to live. Bunnies in this case don't have the choice if they want to be used as test subjects for makeup products. They get no saying and have no knowledge of why they are being treated so cruelly. It is sad that these gentle creatures who cause us no harm are being taken advantage of
3. 3.Unbalanced Nature
We the people have destroyed habits to building our society and, in the process, make wild animals lose their homes. We have and are still hunting animals for their fur, horns, and lucky body parts. Therefore, animals are going extinct and the bunny’s species is one of them. We are taking their lives for granted and putting them to use in labs. Bunnies and all animals are an important part of the ecosystem. We don't need anymore more species going close to extinction like pandas or kolas. Bunnies are a source of food for other animals and vice versa.
4. 4. No Guarantees
Animal testing such as bunnies should not be used for the makeup product industry because it's not 100% guaranteed. Taking the Johnson and Johnson baby powder product. It turned out that its product can cause cancer. Which proves that animal testing does not guarantee that there will not be any sort of chemical reaction as It is a well-know fact that the powder was first tested before being put on market shelves. Just like any other product, there are bounds to be a chemical reaction. These poor animals whose lives get put at stake for the safety of humanity.
5. 5. Cruelty free products
Animal testing such as bunnies should not be used for the makeup product industry because there are ways that makeup products are made without the use of animal testing. Such as having human people volunteer. Which is a great way because it's on the person's choice, and they know exactly what they are doing. They know the consequences that can happen, and they know that they will be rewarded. All makeup brands should take this route to stop hurting and killing animals. There are many ways in how they can test without using animals.
6. 6. Relations
Bunnies are small creatures with many features than us humans. It is unbelievable that the bunny species are the animals getting tested on for any negative reaction of makeup products when we don't share a lot with them to begin with. Bunnies don’t get heart disease, HIV, nor many types of cancers like us. The animals that we closely relate to are the chimpanzees. It is a reason why bunnies shouldn’t be tested because we don’t share so much DNA. Experiments on them will be ineffective and not guaranteed. They are spending so much money and causing so many deaths for bunnies for insufficient purposes.
7. 7.Friend
Animals are our friends, not our test subjects. Bunnies crave closeness more than they do then food. They have no place to stay in isolated cages where they will never receive an ounce of kindness. It is like the saying goes, a dog is a man's best friend and dogs in fact are not being used as test subjects. The same should go with bunnies. They are gentle creatures who want to be loved as well. It is why they are one of the choices of having a pet. All pets should be treated with kindness and be caring towards them as I do with my bunnies.
Conclusion
Bunnies are gentle, loving creatures who make great pets as dogs and cats. These creatures are being used as animal testing for the purposes of newly develop makeup products. We inhumanly are sentencing animals to live a life of pain, loneliness, and death. We are hurting our ecosystem and potentially will cause the extinction of bunnies because of the usage of animal testing. Animal testing that does not guarantee our safety because we do not share much DNA with them and because there have been cases that people have developed cancer from a certain product that failed to be shown in animal testers. Animal testing that can be preventable as these animals should be cherished and used less in testing. Throughout this process, I learned that we do not value life and take them for granted. There are laws for abusing animals but it does not stop companies continuing their usage. It is why my research question is, What can the United States do to reduce animal testing in mascara?
