1. Invest in quality food!

It is important to look at all food options for you cat. You may want to feed your cat dry food because it is easier and doesn't require lots of clean-up. On the other hand, you may want to include wet food, or canned food, in your cat's diet to ensure they are well hydrated. You also want to take a look at fillers that are used and ingredients. Just as you might want food that has ingredients you can identify, you will want to do the same for your cat and shy away from ingredients that are chemicals, additives and just plain unknown to you.

2. Cats need toys!

Although your cat may spend a majority of the day sleeping, during their waking hours they will need time to play and things to play with. This will keep them from scratching and shredding furniture, curtains and other household items. Cats need a variety of things to keep them occupied and from getting bored. Try different toys made out of different materials. Playtime with your cat is an important time for them to exercise their hunting and catching skills, which make them more confident. After playing is a great time to feed your cat too, since they will feel extra successful after all their sneaking and batting.

3. Clean the Box!

Providing your cat with a clean cat box is so important to their overall health. If you plan on having more than one cat, you should have a box for each cat you want to own. It is important to clean the box daily, so that the litter can stay as clean as possible-which means your cat won't be tracking litter around your house-and that your cat will continue to use the box. If you leave your cat with a dirty litter box, they may find other places to do their business, which is not a great habit to train them in.
