How to investigate a crime scene

CSI (Crime Scene Investigators) examine crime scenes to gather forensic evidence that will ultimately lead to the detection and prosecution of criminals. They are not from the police department, they are support staff: civilians who are employed by police forces. To all the readers, there are a lot of steps in how to investigate a crime scene. Here's a few steps that you can take part as CSI.

1. Step 1 : Approach the Scene

The crime scene investigator puts the microphone back on his clip and begins the journey to the last mission. Usually the radio dispatch message is brief and rarely reveals the full nature of the incident. Most often, this is done to avoid attracting viewers and media who can monitor the sending frequency. The first obligation is to “activate” its powers of observation. He can mentally record what he sees, hears and smells - or better yet records them on a digital voice recorder.

2. Step 2 : Record and Collect Physical Evidence

Evidence at crime scenes is useless unless it is properly marked and wrapped and a chain of evidence is started from the moment it is collected. Use the appropriate type of containers for all evidence collected. Never pack objects wet with blood or other physiological fluids in plastic bags, as this will speed up decomposition. Label and identify all evidence gathered, including notes taken by the investigator.

3. Step 3 : Capture the Scene Photographically.

Make sure you have wide, medium, and close shots of any potential physical evidence. Make sure to include ladders in the close-ups. It may just be a matter of going around the outside of the structure to see if there is any obvious evidence. These could be open windows, damaged doors, ladders, etc. The question asked by the CSI is, :" how did you get into the structure? Once inside, the CSI will perform a visual inspection of the room in which the reported incident took place. This is a good time to also take overall photos of the scene. He will then inspect adjacent rooms to determine if the spaces may contain information related to the incident. Most law enforcement agencies conduct this type of investigation into an unsupervised death (in the absence of a doctor) as a possible homicide - until decided otherwise.

4. Step 4 : Conduct a Final Survey

5. Step 5 : Conduct a Final Survey

Make sure that every package with physical evidence is collected. Don't leave anything behind. Make a final visit to make sure all potential evidence is packed and labeled.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I suggest that you watch series about crime scenes or do some research on the Internet. These steps are not in order just to be clear! Hopefully looking forward to becoming a CSI.
