3 Reasons Why I want to Become a Lawyer

I would like to begin by saying that this listicle is for myself and for anyone who is struggling with their studies in the fields of law. My name is Jessy Jourdain. I am studying to become a lawyer. I am writing this listicle to make sure I always remember why I am studying so hard and I hope that it can help any law student who is in a tough period. I believe I am someone with a good motivation and this is in part because I am good at reminding myself why I make efforts. This listicle will be a good reminder of why I want to practice law.

1. I will be able to help people

Lawyers that help people

This point is very important to me. I want to become a lawyer mostly to help people. An association like Lawyers Without Borders represents very well the fact that lawyers can do good too. This association is less know than Doctors Without Borders, but they do work just as important. Their mission is to help vulnerable people whose human rights are being violated. This can be a life or death difference for many people or even populations. They do that in part by supporting local lawyers all around the globe and providing legal aid and legal assistance services. Looking at their website makes me dream of all the good I will be able to do once I become a lawyer. I could decide to become a volunteer for them and travel the world to help people in need. This is the kind of thing that makes me dream and reminds me why I want to do that job.

2. I might work on very public cases

A very public trial!

The media loves a big trial

This is not the most important item on my list but I have to say that I would like to work on a very public trial. We have all seen the media in that wait at the exit of the courtroom to ask questions to the lawyers and try to learn more about the case. I would like to live something like this and know that I have a huge pressure to get a conviction or not because the whole province is following the trial. There is something appealing to me in that pressure. The fact that everyone would be speculating on my strategy as a lawyer and that I would be a part of something that decides if someones ends up in jail or is set free is exhilarating. To me, it would be a way to be a part of History and leave my mark on our society.

3. I will have a big impact on the lives of people

The Supreme Court of Canada

As a lawyer, I will have a huge impact on people I work for. One of the ways I could have an impact on the biggest amount of people is if I could work at the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court decides on matters of the utmost importance and it is the court of last resort. You cannot go higher than them in the Canadian judicial system. They decide if laws are constitutional and human rights are being abused. I would love to go there to argue on a case that would make a difference for many people. Just to be allowed to argue a case there would be a huge honor for me. This would truly be a dream come true since it is very hard to get there but it helps me to think that is is a possibility and that someday I might be a part of this great system.

Conclusion

In conclusion, those are 3 reasons why I study so hard right now and want to become a lawyer.

Thank you,
