To me, a Special Care Counselor is someone who provides care and support to individuals in need, assisting them in overcoming challenges into their daily lives by equipping them with the necessary tools to address their difficulties. These challenges may include mental health needs, physical disabilities, behavioral disorders, or any other special needs individuals may be facing.
I don’t have any professional experience in the field. However, I did complete an internship at the Gite Jeunesse, a community organization for boys aged between 12 to 17 years old who require support in their personal lives or at home. Adolescence can be a challenging time, and the gite provides a safe place where teenagers can stay for a maximum of 6 weeks. They offer comprehensive support, including follow-up with both the teenager and their parents and an intervention plan with the goal of restoring balance in their lives.
I would describe myself as a hard worker. I began working part-time jobs at the of 13 while managing my high school studies. By 18, I had moved out of my family home and into my first apartment and began my first college session where I continued to maintain independence while juggling two jobs and school simultaneous. My most recent job experience is in the health system, as an administrative technician.
I believe that I posess leadership qualities in certain contexts. I enjoy guiding people towards accomplishing tasks and assisting them in solving a problem, giving them some tools to help. I also enjoy animating activities in a group.
I would say that my childhood has made me a hypersensitive person. I’ve always been the person who was taking care of her family and her friends and often noticing when someone is not feeling well. In my career, I think that it will help me understand more people and their difficulties. I'm confident that I may be more empathetic than others, because I have experienced similar things myself.
Everyday, i have to work with my collegue or ask for advices and I enjoy working in teams. Also, I consider myself as a cooperative person. I’ve always been the girl who helps the others one. At my current job, they describe me as “the surprisingly willing girl” because whenever I’m asked to do a task, I always say yes and complete what it’s demand to the best of my abilities.
Yes, i am quite resilient in every aspect of my life. I can take a criticism and be able to ask myself what did i do wrong or what can i do better next time ? When I faced some difficulties, I quickly think of solutions to solve the problem. My childhood was not easy, but here I am, aspiring to help others as a career. For me, that’s a good exemple of resilience.
I've never really thought of myself as strategic, but looking at my life, I realize I often set personal goals and take actions to achieve them. For instance, If i have to do a task that i've never done, i will search on the internet how to do it, ask collegues and take informations as much possible. I will take note and i will do the task step by step.
I think that I can be good at persuading others by explaining my reasoning or presenting strong arguments. For instance, when someone seeks advice from me, I always offer my opinion and provide explanations for why I think a certain way. I think that often, a well-reasoned argument is enough to convince someone.
I think that i would be a great addition because ambition is one of my strongest qualities. I've faced many challenges in life, and I've overcome all of them by finding ways to succeed. In every aspect of my life, I push myself to achieve more and succeed. When I want something, I dedicate myself to getting it. In my work, it's the same, i will always want to do more. For instance, after working as an administrative agent for about two years, I desired more. I returned to school to complete a degree in administration, became an administrative technician, and now I am back at Mérici to finish my degree and continue my education at university.
