For me, being an accountant means to be the central point of a business. By handling accounts receivable, you know the customers. Accounts payable lead us to work as a team with the buyer and to know the suppliers. Payroll brings us to know the employees and their particularities. As an accountant, you also know the financial situation. The accountant knows everything that happens in a company.
I have almost ten years of experience in accounting. I have worked at the accounts receivable at BSA Inc at Montréal between 2003 and 2005. When I moved to Trois-Rivières in 2006, I had found a job as a receptionist and bookkeeper at U.V. Laviolette. The owner has transferred me at Locusi in 2007 and I have been an accountant. There was a reorganization in the company in 2009, and I chose to leave. I have worked as a bookkeeper at Centre Funéraire Rousseau for a year. In 2010, my former employer has created a new company and have asked me to lead it. I became a manager and an accountant at May-Bourg until 2012. Then, I got pregnant and have decided to stop working.
In my past jobs, I have started as a bookkeeper for the accounts receivable and accounts payable department. I have also done enrollments at the ledger, bank reconciliation and income taxes. I have been responsible for the credit limit and the deposit to bank account. I have done monthly financial statement, I have also balanced the books and close the financial year. I have done payroll and all other tasks related to employees. I also have supervised a work team as well as progress in news projects.
My first employer was Impressions Alliance 9000. This was a student job as a bookkeeper in the summer of 1998.
While I was working at May-Bourg, employees had a hard time to complete tasks as required. I spoke with each one to understand the reasons for this lack of productivity. I have adjusted the schedules and resolved the problems to improve performance.
When I arrived at Locusi, there were over four months of bookkeeping overdue. My employer gave me two weeks to bring the books up to date. I brought work at home and in just under one week, I have done the task.
Beyond my experiences, I am not afraid of working hard to meet goals and deadlines. I do not hesitate to bring work at home or leave the office after hours. The most important thing for me is meeting my employer’s requirements.
For me, being an accountant means to be able to analyze the company’s financial information and make the right decisions about it. It also means being able to work in a team and be discreet. A good accountant should keep information confidential.
As an accountant, I always have worked in a team. I was part of the financial team at BSA Inc. At U.V Laviolette, I had to constantly team up with the manager and the production coordinator. At Locusi, I was part of a team with the buyer and the production coordinator. At May-Bourg, I was in charge of the employees hired to rent the apartments or maintained the units.
I do not work well with people without organization. Their work is often sloppy and they cannot perform.
If someone tells me a constructive criticism, I accept their comment and use them to improve my work.
I am more comfortable in an environment of mutual trust. If I know I can talk openly with my employer or coworkers, I feel good.
I always have a to-do list that shows me the priorities and I update it as needed. I check off each task as they are completed.
For the beginning, I would try to find the best way to do that task to be the most efficient. If I needed more information from my boss or coworkers, I would ask them.
I asked many questions, I referred to my textbooks and I took a lot of notes to make sure I did not miss anything or forget some important steps.
Sometimes, I had to take legal action against tenants who did not pay. Each time, I convinced the judge with evidence that the tenant was wrong and I won my cases.
I would try to convince someone to change their mind if what they are thinking does not make any sense. If so, it would be easy to find logical arguments to defend my point of view.
Since I have worked for several companies, in different fields, I am already comfortable processing accounting data for various kinds of business.
The fact that I am an organized person who pays attention to details will allow me to respect two important values in your business. Give an excellent customer service and meet deadlines.
