You need a DCS in Pre-Hospital Emergency Care. During this DCS, you will also pass some physical exam to make sure you can lift all type of patients. After, you need to pass the PINIC exam that will register you as a paramedic in Quebec. You can also become an advanced care paramedic. For that you need two years of experience, and go to the university.

Paramedics can be in contact with a lot of contagious diseases. They can hurt themselves while moving a heavy patient. They work up to twelve hours continuously and can have a lot of bad posture during their calls.

What are the chances that paramedics will be replaced by robots soon?

The chances are really low because all the calls are really diversified. Also, paramedics have empathy for the patient, robots don’t have this kind of emotion and warmth that provides another human being. I think robots will help the paramedics but not replace them. For example, right now you have the " lucas " machine that was invented to give chest compression.

What age do paramedics retire at?

There is not a right age to retire as a paramedic. Sometimes health problem or the harsh conditions push paramedics to retire.

Conclusion

I hope this career summary was helpful for you. I am currently three years into my DCS and one left to go. It is a really cool job to learn. I wish to work in the " Lanaudière " area when I graduate because it’s where I am currently working and living.
