Paramedics are normally the first people to arrive at the scene of an accident, and are also the ones to transport patients to the hospital if needed.
They drive around in an ambulance and wait for a call saying there is an emergency. When they receive that call, the drive to the location of the incident and help the person in need. They take the patients vitals and make sure they are stable for transport before loading them onto the ambulance. They then transport the patient to the hospital and at arrival give information to the doctors/nurses receiving the patient. Afterwards, we start all over again.
Paramedics work in hospital emergency rooms, ambulances, and outdoors. They drive around in an ambulance, they go to multiple locations depending on where an incident has occurred, and the back to the hospital.
To become a paramedic, you would need to get into the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care program at any college that offers it. You'll need to do all required classes and the graduate. After studying in class, you'll be able to do an internship, which would intel you to train in real situations. You'll need a certain amount of hours training in order to be qualified for the job.

There is no specific addition training needed. Other than staying fit and making sure you are in good shape to work. The rest is mostly on the job training/learning.
Paramedics risk exposing themselves to contagious and infectious diseases from patients. They risk getting involved in physical altercations with violent patients. There are also chances of getting exposed to toxic chemicals. Those are only few risks related to this job.
It is not very probable that paramedics will be replaced by robots. A paramedic's job is very fast and I don't think a robot could compete with a human.
