If you ever thought about becoming a psychologist, this article is for you.
It can be hard sometimes, but if you keep digging on what's your patient disease and helping him/her than it becomes rewarding.
A psychologist do research and examinations on their patients in order to put a diagnosis on their patients.
It all depends if the psychologist works in a private place or in an academic place. In general the private psychologist will just see patients all day, and figure out what these patients need, etc. And if the psychologist is working in an academic place he/she will have more like an educator, counselor or a researcher position.
They can work in a private office, in schools, in any workplace where people need a psychologist.
If you want to be a psychologist, you need to do a Ph.D in psychology at university.
In Canada, a psychologist makes in between 80 000 to 120 000 annually.
Like I said before it all depend on which type of psychologist you want to be, it all depend if like for example you want to be a cognitivist psychologist, a neuropsychologist or even if you want to work in schools.
The only danger of being a psychologist is to have a burn out or a depression after seeing too many patients.
The chances are almost zero, because as you probably know robots can do so many things, but they are not programmed to be able to feel and understand the human emotions which means if they can't understand it, they can't make a diagnosis and everything.
There is no age really, some psychologist's love their jobs, and they continue until their health (mentally or physically) tell them to stop, I know a psychologist who is 70, and he is still practicing. As long as you keep yourself posted in what is new and everything you can keep working.
As you can see, in order to become a psychologist you need to go to school for at least 5 to 7 years to get your Ph.D, it's a really long time but it all pay off in the end, because you will help people a lot, and you will make a lot of money too. But be careful, don't become a psychologist just for the money, you need to love helping and understanding people if you want to be a good psychologist.
