A day in the life : Flight Attendant


Introduction

If you have ever thought about becoming flight attendant, then this article is for you. I am to write this blog since I will learn a lot on the subject, more than I thought I knew.


What is it like to be flight attendant?

You need to be observant, a good communicator and leader, calm under fire, super organized and a stickler for following rules, but you also have to think fast on your feet, and be flexible and ready to roll with the punches – it's a very unique job.


What do flight attendants do?

Is to keep passengers safe, ensuring that everyone follows security regulations and that the flight decks is secure. Flight attendants also try to make flights comfortable and stress free for passengers. At times, they may deal with passengers who display disruptive behavior


What do flight attendants do on a typical day?

1. Announce and demonstrate safety and emergency procedures, such as the use of oxygen masks, seat belts, and life jackets. 2. Prepare passengers and aircraft for landing, following procedures. 3. Conduct periodic trips through the cabin to ensure passenger comfort and to distribute reading material, headphones, pillows, playing cards, and blankets. 4. Attend preflight briefings concerning weather, altitudes, routes, emergency procedures, crew coordination, lengths of flights, food and beverage services offered, and numbers of passengers. 5. Verify that first aid kits and other emergency equipment, including fire extinguishers and oxygen bottles, are in working order. At the beginning of their shift, the flight attendants make sure that all passengers are seated safely, with their seat belts on, tray tables stowed and overhead bins securely fastened. Then, the attendant gives the safety demonstration so passengers know what to do in an emergency. At the end of their shift, the flight attendants, if they have not landed in their city, where they live. The airline company pays hotel rooms to flight attendants. Then, the next morning leaves again for another flight


Where do flight attendants work?

Flight attendants are working aboard aircrafts. From smaller ones to huge ones. They travel in various places, inside or outside their country. If they work for international airlines, they could be lucky and travel outside the country… discover New continents, new culture and new backgrounds. Learn or improve new language, new way of living, various climates. As for exemple: the can take off from Montreal with the snow and land in la Havana by 30 degrees. The advantages about being f.a: working with colleagues from various backgrounds, discover new culture, travelling around the world, having free staff travel ticket, learn languages, being an ambassador for your airline, having a lot of days off.


How can I become flight attendant?

You must have a high school diploma and what can improve your position even more, to become a flight attendant is to have a diploma in tourism. Subsequently, to do this job, you still need to have experience with the public. Then, you need to make a craft your resume. If the airline contacts you to do so, you may have a chance of being accepted. If you are, you will have a training program to officially become a flight attendant. Then, you will have an annual training just if you have passed the training, to obtain your license, to say that you are able to work alone.


How much money do flight attendants make?

The salary for a flight attendant in March 2022, it depends on in witch airline company you working for. Each flight attendants in the world don’t win the same money as another one.


What kinds of additional training do flight attendants need?

This program you must make last between 3 and 6 weeks, depending on the airline. You should be training approximately 8 hours a day. This training teaches you the IATA ratings of airports, the sounds that can be found in an airport and in planes and other daily routines. And in addition, some companies require you to pass several tests before working all the time.


What are the dangers of being flight attendant?

Concerning disadvantage of the job we can say - ear problems due to high variation of the pressure - phlebitis - life expectancy reduced. - radiation - most of the time feels alone - sometimes stand far from family for long time - sometimes difficult to have a long or serious relationship - you know when you start but sometimes don’t know when to finishing - suffering from a jet lag - can have intestinal or sleep disorder


What are the chances that flight attendants will be replaced by robots soon?

This profession takes up a very large place in planes, for passengers. People who practice this profession must ensure that everything is correct on the plane and that the passengers are well. Even if robots are computer programmed, they will never be able to do the tasks that a human is capable of doing.


What age do flight attendants retire at?

It doesn't really have an age to retire. One person retired at the age of 90. The impacts of experiences that I could have gained would mainly be to have a grown up in the world of tourism and to have allowed me to acquire new knowledge about the profession. My regret would probably have been, like not being at my best, all this time


Conclusion

At the moment, I am on the right track, to obtain my diploma in tourism. At the moment, I am working in a restaurant, it allows me to practice my skills in customer service. My objectives that I have for the moment, to obtain this work is to obtain my diploma, to have a lot of experiences with the public and to enrich myself every day, on this field.
