The Career of a Pilot

Introduction

If you have ever thought about becoming a pilot, then this article is for you. You'll learn everything you ever wanted to know bout becoming a pilot, where pilots work, how much they get paid, what kind of additional in-service training they need, how you can become a pilot, some of the dangers involved int the job, when you can expect to retire and how you can make a difference in the lives of the people you serve.

What is it like to be a pilot?

The career of a pilot comes with a lot of responsibility, pros, and cons. It is your job to fly the passengers to their destinations in safety. It is wonderful to be able to travel to many destinations with different climates and cultures. However, the constant change in time zones can be exhausting for a pilot.

What do pilots do?

Pilots can be constantly flying from one day to another. Generally, their job consists of keeping the passengers' of the plane safe throughout their flight. They must be able to stay calm and work under pressure through rigorous weather conditions. They are well-trained and capable of flying and perfectly landing a plane.

What do pilots do on a typical day?

Pilots arrive before their flight departure to meet with staff and crew members. They do a quick briefing of weather conditions and flight course. All staff and crew members head to the aircraft to perform a routine verification before the take-off. The pilot and his first officer fly the plane to their destination. After arrival, all staff directs themselves to their next flight or to their layover hotels.

Where do pilots work?

Pilots begin their shifts in an airport conference room. They spend most of their work hours in the aircraft steering the plane. The environment in a conference room is more relaxed compared to the pressure a pilot feels while flying the aircraft.

How can I become a pilot?

The prerequisites to a pilot course are physics and advanced grade 10 mathematics, usually taken in high school. Afterwards, you need to apply to a pilot school that offers the "Professional Aircraft Pilot Program", which lasts 18 months. Before you get accepted to the school, you need to pass a physics test, a visual test, and multiple drug tests. After completing this academic program, you need to have an average of 500 to 1000 flying hours before you begin working as a pilot.

How much money do pilots make?

The average Air Canada Pilot salary can range from $28,594 to $512,896 per year. The most common salary is $100,421.

What kinds of additional training do pilots need?

Pilots can always collect more flying hours in various conditions to better prepare them for future flights. They can also be required to pass flight simulations to assure their pilot competencies and skills are up to date.

What are the dangers of being a pilot?

Pilots must be very vigilant when flying through challenging weather conditions. They risk losing the lives of passengers and crew members if the plane is going through turbulence. The plane also undergoes technical difficulties, such as engine failure. The pilot must make an emergency landing, sometimes resulting in crashes.

What are the chances that pilots will be replaced by robots soon?

I don't think that there is a probable chance that pilots will be replaced by robots in the near future. There are far too many specific tasks as a pilot that a robot would not be capable of completing. The introduction of robots in the pilot field would affect the confidence of passengers in a safe flight.

What age do pilots retire at?

Pilots don't necessarily need to retire at the age of 65. They can continue flying as long as they can pass their physical tests. Once a pilot retires, he collects an above average pension from the government and can also live off his personal savings.

Conclusion

I am completing my prerequisite Physics course at Ahuntsic College. I will be applying to the Academy of aeronautics' School in Montreal in March for the semester of Fall 2022. After 18 months, I will be a certified pilot and begin to accumulate my flying hours.
