Accountants prepare tax returns for businesses and individuals, they prepare and process monthly payrolls, they audit and analyse services for businesses, they organize and maintain financial records to ensure that statements comply with laws and regulations, also they suggest ways to reduce costs by monitoring spending and analysing the budget to improve the profits for the company.


What do accountants do on a typical day?

Accountants do a lot of activities on a daily basis, such as writing reports for the manager, preparing the payroll for the employees, sending emails and communicating with the clients and the suppliers. They compare the statements of the bank and the statements of the company, and they correct the errors if they are not balancing. Usually, they don't have fix hours, but they have to finalize their daily tasks and send them to the manager at the end of the day

Accountants can work in a lot of different places, such as multi-national companies, businesses in the private, public and community sectors, in the manufacturing companies, in the government agencies, also they can be self- employed workers.


How can I become accountant?

First, you should do accounting and management techniques at the college it's three years program, or you can do you can do two years business management, then you should continue at the university to do bachelor in accounting or bachelor of business administration, and it is about three years the program. After you take your bachelor degree you must register as a candidate for the practice of the profession. Then, you have to do 24 month training program to become a CPA, and the final step is to pass the Common Final Examination.

The average accountant salary in Quebec for starters is $56000 per year, the experienced professional accountant make about $75000 per year. Usually the salary of the accountant is based on the years of experience, for example the CPAs salary starts from $120000 up to $150000 for the senior CPAs per year.

What are the dangers of being accountant?

There is no physical danger when you are an accountant because it is not a dangerous job like the firefighters for example or the policemen. However, there are some risks you should avoid especially when you own your accounting firm, like clients' lawsuit or security breaches. In this job, you will have access to all your client personal information and if there is a lack in this data your firm could lose its reputation and in some cases you could end in jail. You should be perfect when you do your job especially for auditors, if there is something wrong in the claims your client may end bankrupt or have penalties.


What are the chances that accountants will be replaced by robots soon?

I think there isn't any chance that accountant will be replaced with robots because it is a very difficult job, and it is based on the experience, and the evaluation for every situation and there is a lot of planning and logic in this job. So, it's impossible for robots to think and evaluate and perform a plan for 5 years for example. Robots are programmed to a specific job based on the data that they have and in accounting there is a lot of thinking before every transaction so if they see a new situation their system will shutdown


What age do accountants retire at?

The average retirement for accountants is between 55 and 62 years old, but most of the accountants don't retire they start to teach in colleges and universities

In conclusion, being an accountant is a very good job because you can work in a lot of different places, and you can have flexible working hours and a very good salary, it may have some risks but every job in life has risks.
