Salaries for criminologists can vary widely, based on the specific type of job, who your employer is and what your education level may be. For example, a corrections officer salary is around $43,500 a year.
Criminologists need training on new laws and sometimes need weapons training.
Being a criminologist can be a dangerous job. You are working with criminals. A suspect could punch or kick you while trying to escape. If the suspect is armed, he or she could shoot you. A suspect can also insult you, curse at you and be disrespectful which can cause psychological harm.
It is unlikely that criminologists will be completely replaced by robots. They sometimes have to understand and feel the emotions of a person and robots can't do that.
A criminologist can retire at 55. Some criminologists enter the top ranks and retire much later.
