Hi my name is Enzo Goupil and I have been studying business management for the past 4 years. I am studying at Ahuntsic College. In this article I will try to help you figuring out how to become a business manager. I think you should take the time to read me, because I got the best teachers during my school journey. That means you will have a really good idea of what is the reality of that world. I am very passionate about this and will try my best to share it with you.
Honestly, being a business manager is like being the mom in the kitchen. You manage everything. You know everything. You decide everything even your time schedule. You have more liberty than the employees, but you still have more job to accomplish. You're constantly in communication with the employees and your clients.
A business manager manages all aspects of a business, often in place of the business owner. Though your job duties will vary depending on the specialization and industry, your responsibilities involve directing company activities, strategies, and goals to make the business successful. You will oversee all departments, including finance, sales, marketing, human resources, and operations. You may also be responsible for the management of employees, supervisors, or department managers. Work hours often extend beyond the typical 9-to-5 workday. In the music, sports, or entertainment industry, a business manager handles their client’s business affairs.
The business manager is in charge of the organization’s day-to-day operations. They manage employees, supervise work, and ensure the company policies are met. The business manager reports directly to the department head of the business, and closely monitors the efficiency of business operations.
Business managers usually work in the company's offices, but that doesn't mean they can't work from home or at a client's location.
Usually business manager go to college and study either business management or administration. The difference is if you do a technique, you can directly go to the labor market after, but if you prefer to go to the university, the administration program is only 2 years. Once you are in university, business managers want their MBA, so they study business. Then once they have their diploma, they can go work as a business manager. When you do the technique, your first jobs are usually just to get experiences.
Business managers have a large salary range. Their salary start at $40 000and can go up to $100 000 depending on the company they work for. Or in certain scenarios, the business manager is the owner of his company, so he can decide his salary depending on his sales.
Again, that always depends on the company's environment. If you go in the food sector, the training are different from the ones in the bank sector or in the video games sector.
I think the biggest danger of being business manager is the working time. There are a lot of business managers that forgot to take breaks and a lot of them happened to work too much, so they have some kind of depression. That kind of work is very addictive and demanding in terms of time, so when business managers forget to take day off, that can ruined their health.
There is a 1.4% that business managers will be replaced by robots. For example, sales managers need a high level of emotional intelligence to hit their quotas each month, network and collaborate with customers, and motivate and encourage the larger sales team. Managers also have to analyze data and interpret trends, and the high levels of intelligence required. Plus the constant need to adapt to new situations; makes this role safe from automation.
There are not wrong answers at that question. Every business manager is different. Some of them works for the thrilled, some of them for the cash, some of them to retire asap and others who just love the job too much that they don't want to quit.
In conclusion, if you have a good leadership and want to feel important in a company, I really recommend studying business management. Being a business manager is a very interesting world due to the continuous business activities and changes that can happened. If you want to just get a little tips of what business management is before starting your studies, I recommend that you read books about the subject.
