What is it like to be teacher?

Being a teacher means to take to heart the future of young generations. Indeed, teachers want to positively impact the life of their students by imparting them a variety of knowledge and skills that will be useful later in their professional career, but also in their personal life.


What do teachers do?

The main goal of a teacher is to teach and educate students. Indeed, teachers must be able to generate interest among students in order to get them to become more curious. Usually, teachers teach their lessons to students and prepare some activities or exams to put into practice what the children had learned during classes.


What do teachers do on a typical day?

Before arriving at school, teachers have planned their day such as the lessons and the activities according to the academic abilities of their students. In the morning, teachers will try to awake students by generating interest with some humour. The rest of the day, teachers will teach their lessons and do some activities with the students. Later, they must juggle with paper works such as grading scores of their students even if they have a really short period to do that. At the end of the day, it is possible for teachers to monitor some extra-curricular activities or to lead some cultural activities.


Where do teachers work?

Usually, most of the teachers work either in primary schools with young children or in secondary schools with young teenagers.


How can I become teacher?

To become a teacher in Quebec, you must have a college degree. After college, you must study at university for four years in order to get your bachelor's degree in elementary or secondary education. During those four years, future teachers have several courses in teaching, but also specific courses in their area of interest. They also have to succeed state-required exams and to do internships to get even more experience in the teaching profession.

These multiple contacts increase the transmission of bacteria, so teachers can catch viral infections or other diseases. Also, teachers get a lot of stress because they have to manage a lot of factors with teaching. The stress can be caused by professional pressure and the success of their students but also with the working conditions that are not always good.


What are the chances that teachers will be replaced by robots soon?

The chances that teachers will be replaced by robots soon don't exist for the moment. Teachers are living beings while robots are created by artificial technology. Robots can't provide a social environment allowing the students to develop their social abilities, which is very important, especially for young children.


What age do teachers retire at?

In Quebec, teachers usually retire at the age of 65, but some teachers decide to leave the profession earlier at the age of 55.


Conclusion

Right now, I'm graduating in Social Science, at Ahuntsic College, in order to get my college degree. In the fall semester 2021, I will become a freshman at University of Montreal in preschool and primary education. I hope to pursue my dream career even if it is difficult, so I will try my best to succeed.
