He examines the area that will be treated of the patient and talks with him/her to know his/her story in order to learn more about the cause of the injury. After the little chat and the examination, they both set some goals so the success of the treatment can be measured. With all the information he gathers, physical therapist develops a specific treatment plan for his/her patient. He uses some techniques to increase the range of motion of the injured. Before the appointment finishes, he gives to his/her patient some exercises he/she has to do on his/her side. Sometimes, he can work with athletes but it's to prevent injury. In short, he decreases the patient's pain, he improves their mobility, and he encourages them.
A physical therapist arrives at his workplace around 7:30 a.m. because his first patient is there at 8 a.m. In the morning, he meets his patients and pick up where they left off the last visit with their treatment plan. During the appointment who lasts one hour, he treats his patient and talks with him to know how the treatment goes. Before the patient leaves, the physical therapist gives him some exercise to do before their next meet. After 3 patients, he can go on lunchtime if he wants. After his lunch, he sees a couple of patients until his clinic closes. A lot of clinics close around 4 p.m. or 5 p.m.
Because of the range of their skills, physical therapists can work in a lot of places. These locations can include hospices, fitness centers, sports training facilities, inpatient rehabilitation facilities or schools.
In order to become a physical therapist, you have to complete a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy.
Unfortunately, I can't tell you the salary of a physical therapist, but with the aging of the population, the need for PTs is increasing. Thus, if the need is bigger, they will become more important and their salary will be bigger.
Physical therapists don't need some additional training, but they can develop specialties in some area they find more interesting.
There isn't some dangers of being a physical therapist like getting shot or something, but the profession is physically demanding. Indeed, most of his time is spent standing, crouching, bending and using his muscle all day long.
In the two articles that I read, there isn't information that can answer this question, but I can give you my opinion. I think that PTs won't be replaced by robots because the job isn't just about physical treatment. Indeed, the emotional side is really important for the patient's rehabilitation. You have to find the right word to motivate the person and remind them of their limitation. Even if the robots are well-programed to threat the patient physically, they couldn't treat them emotionally. That's why I think that PTs won't be replaced by robots.
Unfortunately with all the information that I read, I couldn't answer to this question.
If you are considering this profession, I hope that my article helps. Personally, I want to become a PT and I have my plan in order to achieve this goal. Next year, I will start my physiotherapist technique at Montmorency. After that, I will go to the university and then complete my Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy. After I got my diploma, I will work for someone in the private. After a couple of years of experience, I will probably open my clinic.
