The second option, is to do a general science program in college that takes 2 years to complete and go to university for 3 years or more. With the second option you are obligated to go to university in the Nursing program because you have no knowledge about the job. Every nursing students has to do training throughout their studies and no matter what is your way to become a nurse you need to pass the final exam if you want to have your nurses license.
Right now the chance are very low because the job has a lot of tasks that only a human can do, for example being able to be empathetic toward a patient situation.
There is no age when they can retire but often when nurses gets older they leave the workplaces where the shifts are unstable to go at a place that as a normal schedule like clinics.
You can see that to become a nurse you need a lot of studies but also a desire to help people because it is a hard job with stressful and long days of work.
