Introduction

When you decide to be a nurse, you decide to help patient who is injury, sick and who had a disease. You are there for them and you need to help them to get better. When you are a nurse, you have to work with other medical staff like doctor.


What do nurses do?

A nurse can do anything. When you work in the hospital, you can be a general nurse or you can specialize in several departments. For example, you can be a surgical nurse, an obstetric-gynecological nurse, a neonatal nurse, a pediatric nurse and even a psychiatric nurse. Like I said, when you decide to be a nurse, several choices are available to you.


What do nurses do on a typical day?

In a typical day, the nurse will start by see all her patient and take their vital signs. They will ask them questions about pain, symptoms and the nurse will assess the patient’s general condition with examinations. She will also work with multidisciplinary teams to help the patient get better. The nurse can also give the medication to the patient.


Where do nurses work?

There is a lot of place a nurse can work. In Canada, they can work in the hospital, in a school, in a long-term care facility clinic, in a private clinic, and even in a corporation. The nurse can also go working all over the world because we need them everywhere. You can also go work in a disadvantaged country or a country at war.


How can I become nurse?

In Canada, there are 2 ways to be a nurse. You can go to cegep and do a career program in Nursing or you can go to a Natural Science program and go to the University after in Nursing. If you decide to do the first one, you will have 3 years of study. You can also go to the University to get a master’s degree and become a practical nurse. If you decide to do the second one, you will have to do 2 years of cegep and 3 years of University in Nursing.


How much money do nurses make?

The salary of a nurse depends on her diploma and experience. At the beginning, a nurse is paid $24,08 per hour, which equals $46,956 per year. A nurse’s salary can increase to $106,821 per year with seniority.


What kinds of additional training do nurses need?

Like I said before, if you want to get more degree you can. You will get a better salary and you will have more autonomy during you day.


What are the dangers of being nurse?

The biggest danger of being a nurse is to catch illnesses like the flu, the influenza or the Clostridium difficile.


What are the chances that nurses will be replaced by robots soon?

I don’t think the nurses will be replaced by robots soon because we have to be humanistic in our care and robots cannot. On the other hand, the robots are likely to help us during the treatments to make our task easier.
