Generally they can have a personal meting with their client, they can do some activities, provide tools that can help on a daily basis or to prevent a crisis. They can also observe the behaviour, document the progress by taking notes. They could be called to intervene on a crisis or provide activities and do a follow-up on the progress.
Special care Counselors can work in many sectors. It can be in educational environment, in mental health and rehabilitation services. They can also work within the community with homeless'people, in private institutions, health care, group homes, youth centers and hospitals.
You need to have high school diploma, then you need to have a college diploma in Special care Counselor studies. You can do you program in three years and applied for a job after you graduate. It is also important that you do some research on where you want to work and the required skills and qualities needed. Some people pursue university studies to have more possibilities.
